Safety and Quality Assurance Manager - Lakeland, FL

The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manger oversees all
aspects of food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance for
products manufactured and distributed at Publix Manufacturing and
Distribution facilities. This position acts as the primary food safety and
quality advocate with regulatory agencies, certification bodies, and ensures
regulatory food safety compliance practices are followed while protecting our
customers and the Publix brand.
Additional responsibilities include:
- developing and implementing food safety
and quality assurance programs; Safe Quality Foods (SQF), Hazard
Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), Preventive Controls for Human
Foods (PCHF), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), etc.
- developing internal food safety and
quality assurance audits, using science and statistical process controls
to maintain food safety, and communicating internally and externally
concerning complaints, report analysis, and vendor issues
- leading foundational food safety programs
and quality assurance systems for Distribution Centers (DCs) that
support the food safety program including sanitation and pest management
- developing and training of Quality
Assurance (QA) team leader, inspectors, laboratory technicians, and
facility associates as pertaining to food safety and quality.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food
Safety, or Food Science related course of study or equivalent experience
- at least three (3) years of experience in
a Manufacturing or Distribution environment or equivalent experience and
- at least two (2) years of leadership
experience or equivalent experience
- HACCP Basic Training
- ability to obtain SQF Certified
Practitioner within the first year
- ability to obtain FDA approved Preventive
Controls Qualified Individual status within the first year
- knowledge of Federal and State Regulatory
requirements specific to food safety and related areas
- knowledge of a retail supermarket,
manufacturing, warehousing, distribution processes and programs impacting
food safety
- knowledge of the interactions between
Federal (USDA, FDA, CDC) and state agencies
- knowledge of food manufacturing practices
- knowledge of food microbiology and
chemistry
- knowledge of traceability in foods
- critical thinking skills and interpersonal
skills
- leadership and managerial skills
- ability to remain calm during crisis
situations
- excellent communication skills; both
verbal and written
- basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
- ability to travel, including overnight
stays and travel by air.
