We are currently seeking a Quality Assurance Superintendent to join our team at the Sweeny/Old Ocean Facilities. The Quality Assurance Superintendent manages the Laboratory organization in its support of the plant polyethylene, shipping, and utilities units, business/customer sales, and technology improvements. This position also coordinates the management of the plant Quality System Management program. The successful candidate for this position must possess strong safety leadership, the ability to plan, organize and execute overall laboratory direction, and develop working relationships with laboratory personnel and customers. This position reports to the Technical Manager.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a safety role model and leader. This individual is expected to use established safety tools including Environmental Health and Safety procedures, Process Safety Management processes, Standard Operating Procedures, Job Safety Analyses, inspections and mentoring to address and improve health and safety issues in the drive to a zero safety culture.
  • Oversee the management of the plant quality program which includes the plant Quality System Management program, ISO 9001, customer visits/audits, Customer Feedback System, SQC techniques, LIMS database support and quality work processes.
  • Develop the laboratory leadership team through mentoring, coaching, and strengthening relationships.
  • Coach the laboratory leadership in their management of building and testing technology improvements, work process improvements, work-load and test schedule enhancements, budget reviews, hourly/overtime work schedules, and consistent plant and company policy administration.
  • Guide the laboratory leadership team in the development and growth of their direct reports.
  • Strengthen communication, grow relationships, and improve work processes with laboratory personnel, operating units, technology, and business groups.
  • Oversee the maintenance, trouble shooting, reliability and new technology development of the laboratory test equipment and work processes.
  • Share best practices and lessons learned with the other company laboratories through the laboratory best practices teams.
  • Work with the laboratory training coordinator and laboratory leadership to develop, monitor, mentor, and improve the training programs for laboratory personnel.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Chemistry, Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in petrochemical/plastics manufacturing industry
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good personal and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience
  • Prior polyethylene manufacturing or laboratory experience
