JOB PURPOSE
The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible
for ensuring all food safety and quality assurance initiatives, programs and
protocols are implemented and executed effectively at pork processing
facility harvesting over 20,000 animals per day. Monitors and manages a team
of quality assurance technicians to ensure compliance with all quality
specifications, USDA/FDA regulations and international regulatory laws having
jurisdiction over Seaboard Foods facilities. Supervise and develops the QA
team to ensure daily tasks and responsibilities are performed consistently,
efficiently and aligned with the goals and objectives of the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for having a high level of
expertise and knowledge regarding emerging quality and food safety
issues through consistent monitoring and evaluation of processes and
finished products.
- Reviews and monitors daily records
generated by QA technicians both on paper and electronically to
determine consistency of product quality, compliance to regulatory
agency requirements and documentation of HACCP.
- Ability to report to plant management
information generated by the FSQA department on product quality and
consistency, research test, process capabilities, USDA situations,
HACCP; use of statistical process control is required.
- Intermediate computer skills required
including but not limited to the use of Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Interact daily with sanitation
management, plant management, and employees.
- Communicate as needed with customers for
follow-up and feedback on products and services and to establish
proactive customer/supplier relationships.
- Implement, verify, and validate current
food safety program for all aspects of the facility Food
Safety/Regulatory Compliance programs such as Hazard Analysis Critical
Control Point (HACCP), Sanitation Standard Operation Procedures
(SSOP’s), and Sanitation Performance Standards (SPS).
- Responsible for the development,
direction and support of the corporate quality and food safety
initiatives for manufacturing and distribution.
- Maintain an excellent understanding of
new and current federal, state, and local regulations affecting food
safety requirements associated with manufacturing, processing and
packing, distribution etc., (HACCP, SSOPs and GMPs).
- Responsible for providing support to the
FSQA management team on special projects and activities related to food
safety and product quality.
- Assist in development and enhancement of
department programs and procedures. Provide technical assistance and
support to plant management as necessary.
- Complete understanding of the
organization’s software systems (Cat2, Safety Chain, Carlisle, etc.)
utilized to monitor/audit the production environment.

REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in meat science, food
science, microbiology, engineering, or related discipline with two (2)
years of progressively responsible positions or five (5) years of
progressively responsible positions in the meat/pork industry.
- Must have comprehensive knowledge of
current and application of USDA and FSIS directives and regulatory
requirements.
- Must have adequate experience to
demonstrate thorough knowledge, skills and abilities of both commercial
and technical aspects related to FSQA for the pork business.
- Well-developed management skills
utilizing sound management principles in leading a large team of diverse
employees.
- Demonstrated ability to understand
advanced statistics and statistical analysis for process control, along
with the ability to design experiments and use mathematical formulas and
calculations to prepare or interpret routine statistical information.
- HACCP/Food Safety Certification and
experience with GFSI/SQF (SQF Practitioner, PCQI certification is a
plus).
