POSITION SUMMARY:
The position of Vice President - Quality & Food Safey
offers a hardworking, team-oriented individual the opportunity to develop and
administer the company wide Quality and Food Safety Program, from acquisition
of raw materials and supplies through and including final packaging and
shipping of finished product.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Administer customer quality specifications, including both development
of them and assurance that they are continually being met.
- Design and
monitor all necessary analytical tests and procedures to measure food
safety and product quality.
- Establish
Company and Departmental strategic quality and food safety goals, and
assure they are met.
- Advise
Executive Management relating to policy in the area of food safety and
quality and its administration. Attend board meetings and activities and
provide department related business updates as appropriate.
- Maintain
involvement and relations with trade associations and serve as liaison
on technical matters. Serve on committees as appropriate.
- Serve as
liaison with counterparts in Sales, Sales Service, Customer Service,
Operations, Human Resources and Finance/Administration at the Corporate
level.
- Represent the
Quality Assurance department on the Corporate Executive Management Team.
- Serve on the
Strategic Planning Committee, and oversee the accomplishment of Long
Range/ Strategic Goals of the Company regarding food safety and quality.
- Review
regularly the adequacy of Corporate and plant quality assurance
facilities, personnel, and procedures and make recommendations as
necessary.
- Establish and
monitor sanitation standards and procedures.
- Serve as
liaison with customers and suppliers, including direct visits and
regular communication in coordination with Sales and Operations.
- Assure the
objectivity and independence of all quality assurance personnel Company wide at all times.
- Design,
implement and improve the product lot grading system, and personally
participate in Corporate quality cuttings.
- Regularly
visit Company facilities for the purpose of auditing and recommending on
the Company food safety and quality program.
- Provide a
strategy to assure compliance to the Safe Food Quality (SQF) code.
Coordinate all necessary communication with the Certification Bodies.
- Develop
strategies to assure plant compliance to the Food Safety Modernization
Act (FSMA) regulations including Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based
Preventive Controls (HARPC), Food Defense Plans, Food Intentional
Adulteration Mitigation strategies and Safe Transport of Foods.
- Assure
strategy for the execution of all food safety and quality plans
including Plant Environmental Monitoring Programs, Sanitation
verification and testing plans and product testing.
- Provide a
strategy for support to the Plant Quality Managers on the development
and management of their SQF and regulatory compliance programs, problem
solving and trouble shooting, Food Safety
Culture enhancement, and staff training.
- Coordinate all
necessary communication with FDA, USDA, State Regulatory, and other
agencies as necessary.
- Provide
support to the Innovation, Product Development and Commercialization
processes.
- Support
continuous improvement processes through use of targeted data collection
and management tools.
- Supervise the
activities of the Corporate Quality Assurance staff and be accountable
for responsibilities delegated to them.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
Education:
- Master’s
Degree in Food Science or a related field.
- Minimum 15
years of experience in food manufacturing, at least 10 years in a senior
role.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Most work is
conducted in a normal office environment. However, this position
requires regular visits to the production and packaging facilities,
which are typical of food manufacturing and may include exposure to heat
and humidity, moisture, slippery conditions, and so on.
- Trips to the
plants as well as occasional professional travel to other destinations
are by automobile or public transportations and require the capability
for independent travel.
- This position
also involves work in corporate and plant laboratories which would
include exposure to a typical food laboratory environment.
