Position Summary

Directs quality assurance factory floor and/or laboratory personnel while maintaining a close rapport with Production and the Quality team to identify, solve, and prevent problems impacting quality. This is a key position within the Quality Team, providing expertise and support to the Production department and the Factory Leadership Team, fostering a cross-departmental quality and compliance mindset.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Coordinates with production on the monitoring of processes and procedures to ensure effectiveness and continuous improvement
• Uses Defect Root Cause Analysis for the investigation of consumer and customer complaints and quality related losses. Develops corrective actions and monitors for effectiveness. Troubleshoots using product tests and product specification measurements
• Completes updates to HACCP and SOPs as needed and ensures training of associates at all levels on quality programs
• Manages relationships with internal and external customers, suppliers, colleagues, and support services to ensure achievement of targets

SYSTEMS TASKS

• Manages quality assurance production floor support team by scheduling and assigning work, providing training, and managing budgets
• Responsible for ensuring compliance for FSSC 22000 while driving continuous improvement for Quality metrics and KPIs in the factory
• Acts as a communication liaison between management and quality staff to support corporate and plant-driven initiatives
• Ensures that factory sanitation programs are effectively implemented, validated, and maintained to ensure that all products are manufactured in a sanitary environment
• Manages the factory Integrated Pest Management Program (IPM) and ensures that it has been implemented and maintained effectively to support a pest-free environment
• Actively involved in hygienic design and zoning review process at the factory for existing and new processes as well as the facility structure, including early management of design and capital review process.

LABORATORY TASKS

• Manages factory laboratories for chemistry, incoming goods, microbiology and / or sensory by scheduling and assigning work, providing training, and managing budgets.
• Ensures daily routine sample analyses using lab techniques and other instrumentation following Good Laboratory Practices and Internal Control Plans (ICP).
• Ensures lab compliance for FSSC 22000 and NQMS while driving continuous improvement for Quality metrics and KPIs in the lab.
• Updates NQMS, ICPs and SOPs as needed and ensures training of laboratory associates. Assists, advises, and trains factory employees in attaining NQAC requirements (MI, LI, P-test, etc.)

REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:

• B.S Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or other related field required

EXPERIENCE:

• 3-5 years manufacturing and/or laboratory experience required, food industry preferred
• 1-3 years of supervisory experience in QA/QC preferred
• Knowledge in Food Safety / HACCP / 5S & GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)

SKILLS:

• Must have strong problem solving and analytical skills
• Must be proficient with computer systems and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Office, etc.)
• Proficiency in SAP/GLOBE systems is preferred
