The
Food Safety and Quality Senior role is a key role responsible for producing
and delivering high quality food safety and quality assurance engagement
activities. Food safety and quality is of central importance to organizations
involved in the food value chain, as protecting their consumers is necessary
for their businesses' success. However, consistently achieving food protection
and quality expectations remains an industry challenge: recalls, in number
and scale, are on the rise, and companies face increasing regulations and
enforcement. They also face the linked issue of food-related litigation,
particularly as it relates to potential false advertising allegations given
assertions such as 'healthy' or 'GMO' free. As a result, there has been
increased pressure from stakeholders to effectively manage food safety and
quality. Organizations look to us to transform their approach to risk
management.
The opportunity:
- The objective of our consulting risk
services is to provide food and agribusiness clients with a candid and
reliable overview of their risk landscape. Our solutions can be used by
our clients to build confidence and trust with their customers, the
overall market and when required by regulation or contract. Our clients
consist of Consumer Packaged Goods companies in
the areas of Human Food and Animal Food, Quick Service Restaurants, Food
Service organizations, Ingredient Suppliers, Supermarkets, Food Retailers,
C-stores, E-commerce, Distribution centers, Vitamin and Dietary
Supplement Manufacturers, Food Packaging Manufacturing, Alcohol
Producers, and Agricultural Inputs/Seed Producers.
- As a member of the Food Safety and
Quality team within the EY Food and Agribusiness - Risk Transformation
Consulting practice, you will belong to a small network of professionals
aiding our clients in transforming their processes and cultures to
promote optimization, protect their business and brand, and grow the
enterprise.
Your key responsibilities:
You
will be responsible for completion of multiple client engagement deliverables
at a senior level within the practice and the firm. You can expect to work
with high level client personnel to address compliance, risk, and opportunity
areas. You will perform work in the following areas: food safety audits,
quality assurance program development, technical writing, nutritional
labeling and product claims verification, laboratory compliance, sanitation,
training, food packaging and sustainability.
- Aid in the evaluation of current state
food safety practices and in the design of overall leading practices to
guarantee regulatory compliance across client organizations
- Perform risk and controls assessments
across various business units to identify high-risk areas and create
implementation plans to mitigate risk and ensure the success of existing
controls
- Ensure effective implantation of quality
initiatives and processes related to food safety protocols and
practices, audit needs, insurance requirements and standard operating
procedures according to the client's enterprise, industry and customer
expectations
- Consistently deliver quality client
services by monitoring progress, managing risk and ensuring key
stakeholders are kept informed about progress and expected outcomes, as
well as staying abreast of current business and industry trends relevant
to the client's business
Skills and attributes for success:
- Provide guidance and share knowledge with
team members and participate in performing procedures especially
focusing on complex, judgmental and/or specialized issues.
- Brief the engagement team on the client's
environment and trends.
- Maintain relationships with client
management to manage expectations of service, including work products,
timing, and deliverables. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of
compliance, operational risks, and controls.
- Bring and utilize extensive knowledge of
the client's business/industry to identify technological developments
and evaluate impacts on the client's business. Demonstrate excellent
project management skills, inspire teamwork and responsibility with
engagement team members, and use current technology/tools to enhance the
effectiveness of deliverables and services.
- Understand EY and its service lines and actively
assess what the firm can deliver to serve clients.

recognition of business strategy and increasing food protection and reducing
quality risks
To qualify for the role you must have:
- Bring your significant experience in
applying relevant technical knowledge in at least one of the following
engagements: (a) food safety and quality management frameworks,
including food safety risk assessments and audits. (b) developing risk
remediation strategies. (c) performing and interpreting gap analysis (d)
experience in Food System Management and related risk analysis, process
analytics, and business intelligence.
- We would expect for you to be available
to travel outside of their assigned office location at least 50% of the
time, plus commute within the region (where public transportation often
is not available
- A bachelor's degree in Food Science or a
related discipline Food Safety, Regulatory Affairs, etc.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in the
food industry, specifically including food safety and quality
- Experience working with regulatory
agencies (i.e., USDA, FDA, CPSC, OSHA, etc.)
- Certifications (HACCP certification, PCHF
certification, PCAF certification, FSVP certification, etc.)
- Microsoft Office Products including:
Project, Excel, and PowerPoint, including Adobe.
- Experience developing professional decks
with high degree of visual and graphic content.
- Client site can include Corporate,
Technical, and or Plant manufacturing site locations. Corporate site is
typical office environment. Technical centers and Plant manufacturing
site locations are FDA and/or USDA sites requiring personal protective
equipment
Ideally you’ll also have:
- A bachelor's or master's degree (but not
required) n food science, food safety, food regulatory affairs or a
related discipline
- Experience with food safety and quality
audits (multiple GFSI management schemes desired, SQF, BRC, FSSC 22000,
ISO 17025)
- Familiarity with the Food Safety
Modernization Act (FSMA) and Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act
- American Society of Quality - ASQ
Certified Quality Auditor - CQA, Certified HACCP Auditor - CHA,
Certified Quality Manager/Organizational Excellence - CQM/OE
certification
- NEHA National Environmental Health
Association – Certified Food Safety Supplier Auditor - CFSSA , Registered Environmental Health
Specialist/Registered Sanitarian – REHS/RS
- IHA International HACCP Alliance - HACCP
certification
