SUMMARY


The function of the Sanitation Supervisor is to provide production, warehouse, maintenance, and purchasing departments with support and direction in: cleaning procedures and techniques, use of sanitation related equipment, cost reduction, pest control, employee training, upkeep of MSDS system and product safety.

Indirectly supervises Sanitation Department employees, production cleanup crews and custodial employees to insure facilities are maintained. Directly supervises and gives direction to sanitation leads on each shift in conjunction with the shift management requirements.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Ensures all sanitation employees work safely and provides follow-up/input to any sanitation employee recordable accident or near miss. Provides specialized safety training for chemical usage, handling and protective gear use.
  • Assures compliance with the company sanitation SOPís as well as assuring compliance with the Customer, the State and Federal Laws and Guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate (chemical) supplier relationships. Evaluate performance of supplier against expectations based on economics applicable to equipment and chemicals.
  • Presents the sanitation program, self audits, chemical use records, check sheets, training documentation, MSDS program and other information as needed to internal and external auditors.
  • Prepare and monitor the indirect labor and supply portions of the Sanitation Departmentís yearly budget.
  • Supervise and direct a qualified staff of custodial personnel both in-house and outside contractors as needed.
  • Observe conditions pertaining to the plant environment and evaluate the degree of compliance to specifications for cleanliness.
  • Develop and conduct efficient training techniques for the development of the first line management employees as well as the hourly employees. This includes required yearly chemical safety training.
  • Create an environment that encourages BOS in your department.

As a member of the leadership team, your participation in the continuous improvement process is expected. This includes taking an active role in process improvement initiatives, employee training, and upgrading your current skill base.


Other Job Functions:

A.

Maintain a system of records, which pertains to chemical usage, pest control activities and Material Safety Data Sheets.

B.

Maintain and monitor pest activity to effectively coordinate efforts of the licensed pest control operator in pest control and pesticide application. Presents pest control program to any internal or external auditor

C.

Maintain and monitor custodial employees for quality of work.

D

Travel to sanitation seminars or workshops as required

E.

Maintain an accurate chemical inventory system and order chemicals to maintain inventory.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with McCain Foods, Inc. policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

REPRESENTATION

SCOPE OF AUTHORITY

Has authority to start or stop lines under the direction of and accountable to the Shift Managers.

Appropriates authorized budgeted amounts for processing activities with the approval of the Shift Managers.

Authority to hire and discipline employees in consultation with the Shift Managers and Human Resources.

Authority to utilize all resources including maintenance personnel to ensure proper repair and operation of processing equipment.

Authority to enforce McCain policies and procedures.

Authority to approve or refuse to process product based on safety, sanitation, equipment failure, and damaged equipment in consultation with the Shift Manager and the QC Department.

Responsibility to monitor work areas, watch for suspicious behavior and report any concerns regarding unidentified visitors and/or unauthorized personnel.

Authority to question and take appropriate measures regarding the safety of themselves, other employees, products, and equipment.

Responsibility of maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the food processing facility, especially where any raw or finished product is produced.

Authority to report and/or eliminate hazards to the safety of the food that is produced in the facility.

Knowledge and experience in all facets of cleaning and sanitation of a food processing facility.

Must have a working knowledge of the Good Manufacturing Procedures (GMP) for a food processing facility.

Must have basic knowledge of pest control and pesticide application.

D.

Must have basic knowledge of microbiology.

E.

Must seek to further gain knowledge of the most current sanitation techniques and trends in the sanitation field.

Possess basic training abilities to appropriately prepare and present required training to the sanitation workforce

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two yearsí related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
