Job Brief
We're hiring for a Food and Work Safety Director to join our
Risk Management team!

Reports-To: Sr Director of Governance Risk and Compliance
Exemption Status (typically): Exempt
Requirements: As a retail grocer, we operate 7 days/week and 365
days/year and as such work in support of our stores may include evening and
weekend hours per the needs of the business. Valid Driver License and vehicle
required, with ability to travel regularly to store locations, trade shows
and other off-site locations throughout the United States.

About the role: Responsible for understanding, implementing and
leading mentorship and accountability in development of the company’s food
safety, quality assurance, work safety, and claims programs. This is a
management / leadership position. You are responsible for providing
leadership in line with company values and promoting a positive and
progressive work environment in alignment with our company mission, vision
values and policies.

Position Responsibilities:
- Directly manages food safety, quality
assurance, work safety and claims managers and specialists
staff across both New Seasons Market (NSM) and New Leaf Community
Markets (NLCM).
- Demonstrates leadership as a member of
the risk team in developing the company’s food and work safety
philosophy and practices.
- Provides leadership and oversight of work
and food safety programs and initiatives and ensures compliance with all
applicable laws, rules and regulations. Implements appropriate best
practices.
- Responsible for program specific
financials, includes analysis when needed and solid understanding of
financial goals and factors that influence them. Develops and executes a
plan when results do not meet expectations.
- Manages department budget and expenses.
- Develops and maintains positive
relationships with all store managers, staff, and major business unit
leaders. Engages stores on an operational and strategic level and
ensures that quality assurance, work and food safety teams provide
necessary support.
- Ensures the company’s risk management
policies and strategies are in compliance with
applicable building safety, ODA, OSHA and other similar standards and
regulations.
- Ensures business continuity plans are in
place and communicated effectively.
- Works cross-functionally with other
members of the operations and risk teams to ensure that food safety and
work safety policies are aligned.
- Uses business data and metrics to make
effective decisions that improve the safety of our staff and customers
and to reduce potential liability.
- Identifies operations related risks and
effective mitigation measures. Promptly addresses and seeks resolution
to operational issues.
- Understands and holds store managers
accountable for compliance with New Seasons Market and New Leaf
Community Markets food and workplace safety policies and guidelines.
- Drives continual improvement in process
and work environment.
- Resolves conflicts quickly.
- Ensures information and safety updates
are promptly communicated to business units and third-party tenants when
necessary.
- Ensures the prompt resolution of service
level issues and concerns from our staff and customers.
- Performs periodic store walkthroughs with
Store Managers and Operations Directors to evaluate opportunities to
improve equipment maintenance, workplace and food safety, and store
cleanliness standards.
- Collaborates with stakeholders across the
entire company to create a remarkable customer experience.
- Responsible for overall training and
knowledge of department staff. Responsible for department growth and
succession planning.
- Ensures team has strong program specific
financial knowledge and business acumen.
- Tools and Equipment Used (not all
inclusive): This position works with standard office equipment. May be
required to use the following tools and equipment when working in stores
or offsite; baler, hand truck, POS, industrial kitchen equipment (i.e.
blast chiller, grill, knives/blades, oven, grills, scales, etc.) and
basic housekeeping / janitorial items.
- This position works consistently at a
light work level and may be asked to work on occasion at a medium or
heavy work level when supporting stores or other offsite events.
Frequently required to sit, walk, reach and grasp. Occasionally required
to be on feet with a mix of standing and walking throughout shift. Up to
occasionally, dependent on location, required to climb stairs, step
stool and /or ladders.

What you Bring as a Candidate:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience
required.
- Previous food and/or grocery specific
industry experience preferred. Experience in a multi-unit, high growth
retail or similar environment required.
- Knowledge of retail operations program /
policies, food and work safety experience required
- Previous management or leadership level
experience required. Experience managing and mentoring multiple direct
reports, including across multiple geographic regions.
- Prior large-scale project management and
implementation experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree in related fields
required, however relevant work experience in lieu of formal education
is acceptable.
- High-level proficiency with MS Office.
Working knowledge of project management or other retail specific
software preferred. Skills to learn new computer programs and systems.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including
tact and diplomacy, to collaborate, negotiate and communicate
effectively and professionally with cross-functional partners at all
levels in the company.
- Ability to manage financial results,
including labor, sales and profit margin.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with
problem-solving, project management and execution of initiatives across
multiple locations and regions.
- Proven experience driving and executing
strategic initiatives, policies, programs and projects that achieve
measurable business results.
Physical and Environmental Work Space: Work occurs in office, a variety of off-site
environments and in a grocery store environment which includes surfaces that
can be wet and slippery, moderate noise level, and temperature extremes in
controlled environments in the cooler and freezer, and depending on location,
working outside in all temperatures. There may be exposure to certain
