Position Summary:

Responsible for developing Prerequisite Programs and Food Safety Plans (both HACCP and HARPC) for all Pacific Foods’ products. Work with Quality Assurance Leads/Manager to monitor and maintain Pacific Foods’ plant sanitation system to ensure compliance to regulatory federal and local law. Responsible for ensuring all food safety protocols are followed. Responsible for developing and maintaining systems to assure compliance with Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Certification and initiatives.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop, maintain, update, and implement documentation control and manuals related to Pre-Requisite Programs and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Hazard Analysis Risk Based Preventive Control (HARPC).
  • Ensure all HACCP and HARPC documents are organized and accessible to management, USDA, FDA, ODA, and third party auditors.
  • Manage Internal and External Food Safety Audit.
  • Maintain Pacific alignment with Campbell’s corporate policies and participate in periodic program reviews across the Campbell’s network.
  • Develop, maintain, and update Food Defense program and manual.
  • Conduct GMP’s, HACCP, Food Safety, USDA, and Kosher training for all employees annually.
  • Conduct periodic review(s) of all process records, in accordance to established standards and management expectations, by verifying compliance with the FDA, USDA, and ODA regulations.
  • Ensure all compliance records are reviewed and signed off according to regulations.
  • Manage electronic records and electronic signatures database to ensure compliance with 21CFR part 11.
  • Facilitate SQF audits and lead annual SQF preparation activities including document review, internal audits, and food safety audits.
  • Prepare deviations for process authority. Communicate to QA Leads/Manager/Director in response to deviations and help troubleshoot issues.
  • Maintain a professional and effective working relationship with USDA, ODA, FDA, and Rabbi.
  • Respond to USDA non-conformance reports (NR) in a timely manner. Provide NR response to management.
  • Communicate any Kosher issues related to production to Rabbi.
  • Manage and conduct mock recall.
  • Review records associated with R&D pilot plant activities. Assist on deviations pertaining to the pilot processor.
  • Act as Preventive Control Qualified Individual (PCQI) and SQF Food Safety & Food Quality Practitioner.

Secondary Functions:

  • Act as back-up resources to QA leads.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by management.
  • Support record review and thermal process review as needed.
  • Assist with heat penetration (HP) testing at plant level.

Supervisory responsibilities:

This position is not supervisory in nature.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong technical knowledge of plant operations
  • Strong supervisory, organizational, prioritization and problem analysis skills
  • Knowledge of QA systems InfinityQS ProFicient, Alchemy, SAP and Optiva preferred.
  • Computer literate including Microsoft office, Internet/E-mail, and Visio
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with solid basic math skills
  • Strong discretionary, negotiation, mentoring and interpersonal skills
  • Teambuilding, training, presentation, and teaching skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, maintain professional, positive attitude at all times.
  • Self directed with ability to work effectively under pressure and stress.
  • Physical activities including standing, walking, stopping, talking, reaching, climbing, handling and hearing.

Minimum qualifications:

The position requires a Bachelor degree or equivalent specializing in Food Science or related field.

Two to Four years of relevant experience in Regulatory and Quality Management Systems is preferred.

HACCP Certification, PCQI Certification, Better Processing School Certification and Sanitation knowledge is desirable.

Working conditions:

Duties performed during the day in an office and plant environment. Flexibility to off-shift for training and/or food safety meetings; may be subject to long hours, on-call status, and overtime; Moderate use of office equipment, such as computers and telephones. Frequent sitting, keyboarding, handling. Occasional standing, walking, and ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; The Production environment is subject frequent standing, walking and extensive close work. The noise level is usually moderate to loud; moderate lifting, use of and exposure to hazardous materials, high-pressure steam, high voltage and continuous standing.
