Job Summary

This position is responsible for the management and oversight of Hill’s Quality Systems, including standardized documentation practices, ensuring adherence to the Colgate Quality Standards, third party certification audit requirements, external Regulatory Body Audit preparation and the Document Management System. It ensures processes and procedures are in place to provide clear and documented assurance that Hill’s facilities, packaging suppliers, comply with Colgate Quality Standards and all applicable Federal, State and International regulatory requirements. This role is responsible for the organization and standardization of such documents and provides input during on-going reviews of the Colgate Quality Standards and External Regulatory Requirements.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities


  • Manage the systematic approach, implementation, utilization and maintenance of Hill’s Documentation and Certification and Compliance programs. This includes but is not limited to:Updates procedures to reflect current practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with the appropriate coordinator to develop and execute the annual audit grid for the Hill’s Pet Nutrition Center/plants, Packaging Suppliers and Warehouses. Includes ensuring continuous compliance improvement through use of third party auditors, external certification processes, supporting plant internal audits and compliance to Colgate-Palmolive Quality Standards.
  • Train and develop Quality resources in standards and guidelines to ensure adherence to the Colgate Quality Management Systems and external regulations (FDA, FEDIAF, MAPA, MARA, etc).
  • Represent Quality in execution and change management of the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) process, which includes the Audit and the Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
  • Maintain understanding and communicate current regulatory requirements that impact Hill’s ingredients, products, processes, packaging, records and testing.
  • Ensure product recall and recovery procedures are in place and annually tested, communicated and documented to ensure compliance to all Company, Regulatory and Legal standards.
  • Support the consumer complaint investigations. Oversee the compliance program trending and KPIs. Support Quality Packaging, Ingredients, Supplier Management, Analytical, Food Safety, Technology Transfer as required.


Education/ Experience Requirements

Basic qualifications include:

Bachelor´s degree in Science or Engineering

7+ year experience in food/pet food quality, food/pet food manufacturing or food safety

3+ years Regulatory or Compliance experience within the food or pharmaceutical industry

3+ years supervisory or managerial experience

2+ years in a manufacturing operation


Preferred qualifications include:

Master Degree in Science (Food Science, Microbiology, Animal Science)

10+ years experience in the Quality function in the food or pharmaceutical industry.

2+ years experience with global documentation systems

2+ years experience in Colgate-Palmolive Quality Standards


Expected Areas of Skills

  • Good computer skills: Google Docs, Sheet, Slides, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, SAP Quality Module, plant floor systems
  • Extensive understanding of plant process systems, quality and food safety programs and controls
  • Comprehensive understanding and ability to execute audit schemes (GFSI, SQF, ISO, etc)
  • Statistical process control (SPC)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of the FSMA regulations for Animal Food
