POSITION SUMMARY:
The Manager, EHS and Security leads, plans, develops,
maintains and enhances the EHS and security culture and programs at the
assigned distribution facilities as well as merchandising and sales offices.
S/he will also develop and deliver effective standards, procedures, auditing,
training, communications, and educational materials to promote increased
understanding, appreciation, and adherence to safe operating practices
throughout the workplace to ensure compliance with SGWS standards and
government regulations.
The Manager, EHS and Security will be responsible for
compliance with all federal, state and local safety and health regulations
e.g. OSHA, FDA, FM Global, Fire Marshall and local law enforcement. Manager,
EHS and Security will conduct thorough investigations and keep all required
compliance documentation, conduct EHS compliance training, assure
implementation of and compliance with the SGWS EHS Management System, and be
an active team member of the Workers Compensation Program. Act in other capacities
as directed by operations senior management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide a safe and secure environment for
all employees and visitors.
- This includes the facility as well as
drivers and sales representatives, guarding against theft, vandalism,
fire, and illegal entry.
- Promote an injury and incident free
culture across the division to reduce EHS risks and ensure a safe and
compliant work environment.
- Assure compliance with all federal,
state, and local safety, occupational health and environmental
regulations, including implementing the SGWS EHS standards and
management systems process.
- Ensure all security policies are being
enforced on a regular basis and institute new security measures to
ensure a high compliance with industry standards.
- Work with Facilities and Operations team
as needed in providing EHS and security input during the planning and
execution of engineering and new technology applications to ensure that
related safeguards are incorporated which meet all applicable regulatory
requirements.
- Assess work areas, tasks, equipment, and
machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions.
- Ensure appropriate risk assessments
related to jobs performed (Job Hazards Analysis) are conducted and
corrective actions implemented to minimize or eliminate injuries and
environmental impact.
- Conduct EHS training and implement
proactive programs to mitigate employee injuries and illnesses e.g.
Stretching for safety and Behavioral Based safety programs
- Audit and prepare written reports and
evaluations of both security and EHS staff functions.
- Ensure the monitoring of the digital
recording system with regards to loading discrepancies, theft, and
surveillance is being used properly to verify or refute complaints or
allegations.
- Assist in internal investigations of
employee alleged misconduct.
- Investigate and evaluate root causes for
occupational injuries/illnesses, incidents and near misses and maintain
relevant data to drive strategic program decisions.
- This may include educating the line
organization with performing incident investigations including coaching
and counseling.
- Facilitate Division Safety Committee and
act as catalyst for assuring corrective actions are taken for items
raised by safety committee members.
- Conduct facility EHS observations and inspections
on a frequent basis e.g. weekly, monthly, annually.
- Promote hazard identification and make
recommendations for corrective actions.
- Maintain understanding of business
processes and functional interdependencies.
- Recognize and escalate, as needed, those
issues identified as risks impacting, or opportunities to improve,
division performance.
- Coordinate deployment of environmental
procedures, such as HazMat response, SPCC, Tier II, etc. and ensure
ongoing compliance with all site environmental regulatory permits
- Visit each job site within areas of
responsibility to monitor performance and work with division managers
and Managers to improve performance on a continual basis in response the
risk assessment observations in both EHS and security.
- Capable to work under pressure and deal
with unexpected challenges in a professional and calm manner.
- Ability to testify or give oral
statements at appropriate venues.
- Perform other job-related duties as
assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS/BA in EHS, Security Management,
Criminal Justice, or a related field or a combination of education and
experience in safety and security equivalent to Associates Degree and/or
8-10 years’ relevant experience.
- Certifications are preferred, such as
CSP, ASP, CIH, CHMM, OHST, CHST, CSHM, or other recognized EHS or
Security credentials, or willing to secure within 3 years of hire date.
- Demonstrated expertise in the
anticipation, recognition, assessment, and control of risks to
personnel, contractors, and the surrounding community.
- Working knowledge of OSHA /EPA
regulations and have background in both incident investigation and risk
mitigation.
- Working knowledge of Emergency Response
and Risk Mitigation to provide support for emergency preparedness,
response, and business continuity planning efforts
- Working knowledge of warehouse equipment
operation, including obtaining Power Industrial Equipment (PIT)
Train-the-Trainer certification within 1 year of hire, if not already
credentialed.
- Mathematical skills, ability to provide
leading and lagging indicator metric reports or ROI on EHS and/or
security program investments.
- Effective and proficient communication
and presentation skills with the ability to lead and/or facilitate team
meetings, speak effectively before large groups of employees or
customers.
- Capable to work under pressure and deal
with unexpected challenges in a professional and calm manner.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in
matters involving security and/or personnel issues in the workplace.
- First Aid, CPR & AED trained, or
ability to complete within 1 year of hire date.
- Previous experience in food &
beverage, distribution operations or another fast-paced environment
preferred.
- Automated and Manual work force
Distribution Center experience.
- Experience working with Union and
Non-Union associates.
- Working knowledge of MS Office products
and various other EHS data management systems (Intelex, Gensuite, Eneblon, etc.).
- Experience in a fast paced,
changing/growing organization.
- Available to work flexible shifts
including days, nights, and/or weekends.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Regularly stands, walks, bends, reaches,
lifts, and moves intermittently. May require occasional pushing,
carrying, or pulling up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to maintain high proficiency
while working in a non-climate-controlled environment.
