The Quality Systems Technologist position supports the implementation and maintenance of Food Safety and Quality (FS&Q) Systems and supports continuous improvement efforts.

Primary responsibility is to maintain an effective FS&Q Training & Education Program that meets Regulatory, Customer, GFSI, and Sargento requirements for delivered content, competency assessment, record keeping, and frequency.

FS&Q representative for Learning Management System (LMS) administrator responsibilities related to FS&Q Training. This includes assisting with technical troubleshooting, providing assistance to IT and other LMS Administrators when needed, serving as a liaison with the 3rd party LMS provider, creating and managing FS&Q content/scheduling/reporting within the LMS.

Designs and updates organization specific FS&Q Training modules which incorporate appropriate mediums, needs assessments, and adult learner principles to maximize effectiveness of training. Ensures training content aligns with Sargento FS&Q Standards and Procedures as well as evolving industry and regulatory standards, requirements, and practices.

Schedules, coordinates, and conducts training to assure consistent application of Sargento FS&Q Programs across all business units, manufacturing facilities and product categories. Develop, report, and communicate FS&Q training metrics to keystakeholders.

Assist with FS&Q Communication Plans and Food Safety Culture iniatives. This includes collaboration with Communications, development of multi-media content, assisting with coordination of FS&Q company events (example: Safety Month activities).

Analyzes, interprets and communicates training and culture data by evaluating performance, patterns and trends using established methodologies.

Participate in internal audits and gap assessments. This includes communication of findings and written audit reports.

Serves as back-up to Document Control Associate, supporting CARA Cloud system.

Stays current on Food Safety,Quality, and Food Defense industry guidelines and regulations. May interact with industry groups to identify best practices and establish relationships within the food safety and quality community.

Manages other projects as assigned.

Has the ability to work a flexible schedule to conduct off shift training.



This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.


Must possess the knowledge and ability to effectively conduct both training and auditing in a professional, ethical and objective manner using and interpreting applicable standards/requirements, with an awareness of potential legal and financial ramifications.


Must be able to effectively plan, develop, communicate, and execute training within a defined scope, including: resource scheduling, conducting necessary meetings, and using appropriate training techniques.


Develop and implement an IT based, multi-media training curriculum using a range of video, and audio hardware tools and technology.


Must be able to verify, document, and communicate training; develop a training report and evaluate effectiveness.

Must possess interpersonal skills to resolve conflict.


Must be able to create and present training materials effectively.


Must be able to participate in, lead, and facilitate teams. Must understand how quality and food safety principles relate to business processes and be able to explain the importance of aligning the training function to the organization.


Must possess a basic knowledge of food safety and quality management systems.


Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and achieve desired objectives.

Ability to challenge team members to achieve results and respond effectively to challenging inquiries from regulatory and customer representatives.

Attention to detail with the ability to organize and prioritize.


Bachelorís degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university is required. A degree in Food Science or related science field is preferred. 3 years experience in Food Safety & Quality role is preferred.



This person must be able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. He/she must be able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures. The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public is extremely important.


The understanding of basic quality concepts, such as frequency distribution, determination of test validity and reliability, process capability, and sampling theory to demonstrate compliance, particularly with regard to microbiological testing, is required. This person also must be able to apply basic quality-related mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, probability and statistical inference.


This person must have proficiency with Microsoft Suite applications (Word, Excel, , and PowerPoint), Controlled Documentum and Corporate Documentum, and have the ability to become proficient with Learning Management System (LMS), course development softwares, SAP,



This person must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and be able to present and explain those conclusions to SFI employees from various management and manufacturing functions.


Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) Auditor Certification, ASQ Quality Auditor certification, and/or ASQ HACCP Auditor certification preferred. Must be able to obtain within one year.Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) preferred. Must be able to obtain within one year.
