Meaningful Work From
Day One
Responsible for packaging materials and finished package quality from receipt
through the shipment. Establish, manage, and direct activities related to
Packaging Material Supplier plant approvals, material qualifications and new
package development as it relates to Packaging Quality. Support packaging and
bottling process improvement and corrective action projects by providing
quality plans, testing and analysis related to packaging materials. Lead a
team of 3 Sr. QC Specialists. Responsible for monitoring packaging material
quality and finished goods for adherence to specification and performance on
the production lines for JD Family of Brands and any other products bottled
by the Jack Daniel Distillery.
Provide guidance to QC staff and all production employees on the
interpretation and application of quality standards by using problem solving
techniques and objective testing of materials for conformance to standards.
Support packaging, bottling and other JD Supply chain facility process
improvement and corrective action projects by providing quality plans,
testing and analysis related to packaging materials.
Determines disposition of packaging materials and finished goods as they
relate to packaging quality and performance. Empowers and equips production
personnel to make sound quality decisions regarding product package quality
through training.
What You Can Expect
- Reviews data
collected, performs statistical analysis, and reports trends related to
products, raw materials, and finished goods. Provides reports and
recommendations to plant and corporate management. Leads efforts in
investigating and implementing automated inspection equipment or other
technologies to increase the quality of finished product.
- Lead a team of
3 Sr. QC Specialists to support bottling production
- Develops and
supervises an audit program of incoming or stored materials, work in
process, and finished goods to determine machinability and conformance
to material specifications.
- Develop
package quality assurance plans by conducting hazard analyses;
identifying critical control points and preventive measures;
establishing critical limits, monitoring procedures, corrective actions,
and verification procedures.
- Initiates
and/or manages corrective and preventive actions as required to improve
package quality.
- Validate
packaging processes by establishing operating parameters, best practices
and necessary attributes, measuring performance and quality.
- Document
technical packaging testing procedures and train QC and bottling
personnel and b documenting evidence; determining operational and
performance qualification; writing and updating quality procedures.
- Oversees the
collection of packaging quality data related to packaging materials and
finished goods. Analyzes data and prepares reports with recommendations
to plant and corporate management.
- Coordinates
with Purchasing to maintain open communication with packaging material
vendors to meet the specifications of purchase orders. Document feedback
to vendors and require corrective action from vendors to ensure high
quality packaging materials.
- Assumes duties
of Manager of Product Quality Control during her/his absences to ensure
that there is no disruption in delivery of QC services to the plant.
- Assists
Bottling and Bottling Maintenance in resolving process and operational
issues as they relate to quality.
- Coordinate and
lead investigations of packaging related complaints and initiates any
corrective action necessary to prevent reoccurrence.
- Identify,
report, and assist operations personnel in addressing production
problems related to packaging quality.
- Select and
manage external resources as needed to complete packaging analyses to
ensure high quality processes and materials are used during all areas of
production.
- Shared
responsibility for developing, maintaining, and controlling documented
Technical Packaging Quality System.
- Provide
leadership for the site-wide Quality Improvement and Cost of Quality
Efforts related to packaging components and bottled product.
- Food Safety
Responsibilities:
- Engage in
food safety and quality culture through support and participation of
SQF activities as they relate to packaging materials and bottling.
- Provides
resources for continuous improvement of the Food Safety and Quality
system as it relates to packaging materials and bottling.
- Member of
Jack Daniel's Bottling Food Safety and Quality (FSQ) Team
- This
multidisciplinary team is responsible for developing as well as
implementing and enforcing the documented and approved Food Safety and
Quality Plan.
We Are Looking For
People Who
Have a Bachelor’s degree in
Engineering or related discipline AND a minimum of 5 years
experience in packaging material manufacturing, packaging material
quality, bottling operations, and production quality control including at
least 3 years o direct leadership experience.
Demonstrated ability to apply comprehensive knowledge of packaging testing
procedures and quality control tools to the completion of complex
assignments. Strong skills in math and statistics; understanding of
Statistical Process Control and how they apply to the manufacturing
environment. Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, Access and
PowerPoint. Demonstrated communication skills—ability to clearly communicate
technical issues to all levels of employees. Demonstrated project leadership
and interpersonal skills with ability to coordinate efforts with production,
vendors and Corporate Packaging and Quality Assurance. Demonstrated ability
and understanding of how to use systematic processes and a strategic
perspective to investigate and resolve quality issues.
What You Can Add to the Team
Experience in glass manufacturing and glass plant quality control.
Professional certifications related to quality control, quality systems, and
analytical chemistry such as: ASQ.
Certified Quality Engineer, Certified Quality Auditor, or Certified Manager
of Quality and Organizational Excellence. Knowledge of SAP software for
inventory control and quality management. Knowledge of BATF regulations as
they apply to distilled spirits. Hands on experience and proven results using
TPM, Six sigma or similar continuous improvement methodologies.
