Position Summary:

The Food Safety Distribution Operations Specialist is responsible for performing a number of key duties critical to ensuring Gordon Food Service North American distribution operation’s compliance to regulatory, customer and internal quality and food safety expectations. Leads the onboarding of Gordon Food Service acquisitions and new distribution centers to operations-related standard food safety and quality programs and unique customer requirements. This position reports to the Supervisor of Food Safety and Quality Assurance for Distribution Centers.

What you will do:

  • Develops, maintains and executes food safety policies, procedures and work instructions for distribution operations-related activity.
  • Supports the execution, tracking and follow-up of distribution center audits (Corporate Internal Audit, 3rd Party, Regulatory Compliance, Customer Compliance, etc.).
  • Executes DC Food Safety Assessments on-site and/or virtually at distribution Centers.
  • Supports the training, execution, and compliance monitoring of all food safety programs within the distribution centers.
  • Maintains Gordon Food Service's Food Safety internal websites.
  • Leads the onboarding of Gordon Food Service acquisitions, new distribution centers, and new distribution food safety personnel to operations-related standard food safety and quality programs and unique customer requirements.
  • Responsible for executing specific registration and licensing of new facilities as applicable (e.g., FDA Facility Registrations, CFIA Licensing).
  • Supports response to customer Requests for Proposal and/or contract reviews as it relates to distribution operation capabilities.
  • Acts as the Food Safety Council Lead; plans and executes monthly calls and ongoing touch points.
  • Utilizes food safety reporting and KPIs to drive continued process improvement, program development and compliance.
  • Occasional product recalls both during and after business hours and on weekends, includes managing the entire recall process, from product isolation to customer communication, in addition to any follow-up communication with regulatory agencies (shared responsibility with other Recall Coordinators).

  • Five years minimum of previous quality assurance, food safety and/or foodservice distribution operations experience is required.
  • Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), HACCP, GFSI (Preferred)

In lieu of the specified education and experience requirements, a proven capability to perform the essential functions of the job, as demonstrated by an equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant work experience may be considered.
