Director of Food Science, Quality, & Safety the Label Coordinator works within ButcherBox’s
FSQS Department and cross functionally within our Product Commercialization
Team. The primary responsibility is to ensure product related labels,
marketing assets, and artwork comply with current regulatory and special
claims requirements. This position is the Quality & Food Safety point of
contact for select certifications, graphics/artwork questions, certification
& artwork focused projects, and process improvements. It is also
responsible for managing the graphic approval process for FSQS. Responsibilities •Coordinate product
graphics approval processes across the manufacturing network covering all
product brands •Contribute to
innovation, renovation, and harmonization projects in area of responsibility •Ensure compliance
by design of labels and other product communications (Retail eCommerce,
website) •Contribute
effectively to the foundation of the Regulatory team by maintaining
compliance tools, updating policies and procedures, and striving for
continuous improvement to enable products to get to market quickly •Monitor the
regulatory environment and watch for trends in local and international
spheres for the product category and topic area that you own to assess impact
on our products and business; implement changes where you see the chance for
optimization within the compliance period •Stay current with
all key USDA, FDA and certifying agency guidelines, especially relating to
nutritional facts panels, allergen labeling, certifications, and other
labeling laws •Develop components
of product label including ingredient statement, allergen declaration,
nutrition facts panel, net weight statement and claims -which meet government
requirements - and standards of identity •Collaborate with
and provide guidance to cross-functional partners for project teams,
including commercial marketing, legal, nutrition, health & wellness, and
product development •Maintain, update,
and share knowledge on the graphics approval matrix, company coding
requirements, barcodes, and quality led graphics initiatives (such as QR
codes) •Build product
labels using assets from marketing that comply with all regulatory and
special claims requirements for a given product •Manage the
internal label approval process between marketing, legal, product
development, and regulatory teams •Act as a subject matter
expert and primary resource for manufacturing plants regarding certifications
and other areas of responsibility •Coordinate
electronic tools related to product graphics and labels, including but not
limited to Asana, WebCenter, Genesis, Optiva, and M3
•Provide education
regarding Quality Systems standards across all ButcherBox
vendors related to label control, graphics standards, certifications, and
product coding requirements •Develop and manage
key metrics related to projects, certifications, and graphics activity •Coordinate FSQS
efforts relating to artwork and certification changes within FSQS, product
commercialization, and vendors involving new product launches, label changes,
plant trials, and formulation materials •Work with outside
vendors including software technical support, packaging printers, USDA
consultants, ingredient suppliers, and co-manufacturers •Manage the
accuracy and creation of nutritional facts panels for all products •All other duties
as assigned •Travel estimated
at 0%-5% Requirements •3+ years in
relevant regulatory experience required •Experience working
within ERP systems •Experience with
FDA and USDA label requirements Detail oriented, self-driven, results
oriented, able to work independently •Experience with
quality metrics reporting •Basic
understanding of Quality Systems, Food Safety, and Quality Assurance. •Ability to work
under deadlines and with multiple priorities •Demonstrated
ability to work independently and cross-functionally within an organization •Adaptability,
flexibility, and quickness to learn systems, tools, and company programs •Ability to work
with confidential materials •Excellent
Microsoft Office skills esp. Excel Nice to Haves: •BS/BA, preferably
in nutrition and/or food science; MS/MA preferred •Experience in
special claims program and label compliance (i.e., animal welfare
