Cargill is currently recruiting for an Associate Food Scientist to join the Cargill Animal Protein and Salt Platform. In this role, the Associate Food Scientist will work either alongside other scientists or indepently to plan and execute research to support business strategies across the Wichita based Cargill Animal Protein & Salt(CAPS) businesses. The focus of these projects will be on new product development and product/ process improvement. This exposure will help to build bench strength within the R&D job family for progression into a Business Unit specific Food Scientist role.
A focus area for this position is to provide support on the validation of cooking instructions that are displayed on our packaging, websites and point of sale materials. This position will be responsible for conducting cooking validation testing for all Wichita based businesses and will work closly with food scientists and Food Safety Quality and Regulatory (FSQR) personnel on organizing and reporting data.
This position will work closely with support functions to ensure flawless execution of the responsibilities listed above. A proactive approach in promoting collaboration across Cargill and protection of existing or new intellectual property is expected of this role.
This role will be located in our Innovation Center, in Wichita, KS.
∑ 40% - Assist with or conduct R&D projects (customer focused and/or high performance) with CAPS business units
∑ 40% - Provide support on CAPS BU projects including but not limited to validation of cooking instructions, laboratory and sensory work, assistance with specification/regulatory MOCís, Culinary team needs.
∑ 20% - Structured onboarding to learn about CAPS business units. Pilot plant equipment training (processes, procedures, safety, and food safety for pilot plant, labs, and sensory).
Up to 30% travel may be required.
∑ BS in Food Science, Animal Science, Meat Science or related degree
∑ Ability to effectively communicate to a wide range of subject matter expertise
∑ Demonstrated understanding of scientific procedure and project management skills are required
∑ Demonstrated knowledge in area of study
∑ Proficiency in data analysis, experimental design, and technical writing are also required
∑ M.S. or Ph.D. in Meat Science, Food Science or related field
∑ Experience in meat/food processing, culinary arts, commercialization of new products, and/ or research
∑ Experience with statistical software
∑ Understanding of ingredient functionality and their interaction in a meat system
∑ Understanding of muscle biology
∑ Experience executing Sensory experiments
∑ Expericene with packaging equipment and technology
∑ Specifications and regulatory process experience
