Join us as our Director of Quality Assurance to help produce addictively good, artisanal crackers and cookies! We are a mid-sized, privately owned company and are looking for a pro-active, experienced manager with at least 7 years of hands-on experience to drive all strategic and operational aspects of Quality Assurance, including the Food Safety Management and Regulatory Affairs for the company.

General Purpose of the Position
The purpose of this position is to develop, implement, and coordinate Quality Management and Food Safety Management programs and practices for our two production facilities and to safeguard the quality, safety, and legality of our production operations.

Essential Functions

  • Ensures compliance with applicable food safety regulatory requirements, including those of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), customer requirements and company policies
  • Obtains and maintains Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) certifications for each facility
  • Responsible for the company’s HACCP, GMP, CAPA and Sanitation programs
  • Identifies ongoing opportunities for improvement/corrective actions and works with an interdisciplinary team to implement those changes
  • Provides supervision and direction to plant Quality Assurance team
  • Oversees programs such as supplier approval, customer complaints, specification review, crisis management, recall and traceability
  • Resolves customer/consumer quality issues involving illness or injury claims and provides guidance to the Customer Service Department related to general product complaint issues
  • Proactively works cross-functionally to ensure all quality standards are met
  • Partners with commercialization team to prioritize support for new or changed commercial products
  • Serves as the in-house expert for compliance in the Company’s international markets
  • Develops annual budget for the Quality Assurance department within given guidelines
  • Partners with other members of the executive leadership team in identifying and prioritizing initiatives for company “best practice” processes and procedures
  • Ensures that all job tasks are performed in compliance with all food safety and quality management system rules, procedures, policies and guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Proficient understanding of all regulatory standards for food manufacturers
  • Proficient in domestic and international labeling requirements for food manufacturers
  • Proficient in the application and implementation of GFSI, FSMA, HACCP, GMP and other Food Quality initiatives, programs, rules and regulations
  • Able to write effective policies and processes and implement sound practices at every level of the organization
  • Able to work in a collaborative fashion with other departments to effect positive change
  • Able to be to participate directly in the day – to – day work directly involved with the implementation of new processes and identified areas for improvement as well as lead professional staff
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to convey information clearly and accurately
  • Strong computer skills, including but not limited to QA software, Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally.

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Safety, Food Science, Environmental Health, Public Health, Business, or in similar field
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in Quality Assurance required, with
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience
  • Food industry experience
  • Or any combination of education, professional certifications and experience that provides the same expertise.
