QA Manager

Monitor, enforce, and develop quality control policies and procedures for the production plant, as well as programs for 3 rd party audits and regulatory programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor food safety and sanitation activities of the Oxnard plant by: reviewing and implementing new food safety and sanitation procedures, enforcing all policies, Good Manufacturing Practices, and Food Safety Programs, and monitoring food safety and sanitation checklists. Raise awareness about consequences of not following policies.
  • Enforce production specifications for customers by obtaining specs from Technical Services Director. Train QA Leads on procedures, set up documentation procedures, and monitor the production process to ensure adherence.
  • Manage QA Leads by: planning departmental activities to meet corporate objectives, organizing work activities to accomplish the objectives, and directing and developing employees by providing formal and informal performance assessments. Conduct disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Prepare for and participate in 3 rd party or customer audits by: organizing proper paperwork, performing internal audits prior to auditorís arrival, leading tours, and answering questions during and after the audit.
  • Communicate with Plant Manager regarding raw fruit quality and finished product quality.
  • Operate in a cross-functional role when required. Act as QA Supervisor/Lead as needed.
  • Walk the facility on a daily basis to ensure adherence to Safety and Food Quality standards.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelorís degree (B.A.) in Food Science or related field from a four year college or university; or three to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Language Skills

Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to write routine reports and correspondences. Must be able to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Mathematical Skills

Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must be able to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Must be able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions to devise practical solutions.

Reasoning Ability

Must be able to interpret and fulfill an extensive variety of written, oral, visual, or graphic instructions. Must possess advanced problem solving skills used in complex situations.

Personal Traits

Must be able to handle multiple, conflicting priorities. Must be able to handle difficult customer problems effectively and diplomatically. Must be able to communicate and support the companyís policies and procedures to employees and customers in a positive manner. Must be able to follow directions from a supervisor. Tools and Equipment Required

Personal computer, email, fax machines, standard office software (MS Office), and DAX software. Individuals are expected to wear slip-resistant footwear in production areas, i.e rubber-soled shoes with traction.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
