POSITION SUMMARY
The Food Technologist will have a unique opportunity to support GUís success by providing product development in the area of Innovation and R&D. The individual will be involved in conducting experiments, designing products as well as commercializing products with a consistent flavor and texture. The individual will have an opportunity to support new product ideas, ingredients, formulas, and processing as well as optimizing cost and efficiency on existing formulas and processes. This role serves as a key contributor to creating new products and testing improved formulas for existing products.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and approve both new and reformulated products based upon product quality, performance, and cost. Includes performing product sensory evaluation, researching product standards and attributes, and determining product safety
  • Manage projects from start to finish (i.e. new products, reformulations, product/field testing, etc.)
  • Develop new, and modify existing, products and processes
  • Create and maintain both nutrition and supplement labels, using Genesis Software, and ensuring compliance with CFR
  • Review, edit and approve nutritional and supplement information
  • Create and obtain appropriate documentation for regulatory compliance
  • Work with cross-functional teams to assure facility/ingredient/finished product compliance with FDA regulations
  • Communicate with consumers and vendors to provide technical service
  • Perform chemical, physical and organoleptic tests
  • Maintain laboratory organization of samples, supplies, and storage
  • Apply product research principles to existing product and suggest areas for improvement and innovation


SKILL/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelorís degree or higher in Food Science
  • 3-5 years bench-top/prototype formulations experience preferred
  • Proficiency with MS Office and various nutrition databases (ESHA Genesis)
  • Project management and decision making skills
  • Ability to set priorities and meet objectives
  • Highly organized and detailed oriented
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance and food labeling regulations (FDA, organic, kosher, Non-GMO, various industry standards)
  • Knowledge of microbiology & food/non-food safety.
  • Working knowledge of basic laboratory analytical equipment (pH meter, refractometer, simple titrations, various measuring devices, etc.).
  • Thorough knowledge & understanding of manufacturing equipment, systems & and environments.
  • Experience interacting with suppliers/vendors and customers.
  • Understanding of GMP, HACCP, TQM and other quality assurance systems.
  • Professionalism in execution of all outlined duties, consistent with the behavioral values and positive culture of GU Energy Labs.
