Employer (AA/EOE) Key Accountabilities The Food Technologist is first and foremost a developer of new
food offerings for Aryzta. In addition the FT is charged with becoming a subject matter
expert in his/her field of development and in the processes required for commercializing those
products. The FT reports to the R&D/Comm Sr. FT level or above
and does not have any direct reports. There is no budgetary responsibility for the Sr. FT other than to develop within any
given price range. Also, the Sr. FT is responsible for managing his/her expenses in a timely and
frugal manner. Responsibilities 1) New Product Development Initiatives (customer centric and
blue sky): a. Understanding of customer expectations, project objectives,
and target consumer b. Understanding of current and upcoming trends. c. Detailed understanding of functionality of ingredients. d. Ability to develop new prototypes on aggressive timelines
and specific restrictions. (Example of restrictions: maximum cost per unit, specific
labelling requirements such as “natural,” specific shelf life requirements, etc.) e. Maintain detailed records of work. f. Effective communication across interdepartmental team. 2) Continuous Improvement of Current Offerings a. Knowledgeable of upcoming health trends. b. Working with suppliers, regulatory, marketing, and
operations to update formulations to meet current external and internal customer expectations
(ex: removal of PHOs, awareness of HFCS and color additives, etc.) c. Updating documentation and packaging. 3) Bakery Technical Resource a. Provide bakery with updated formulation and specification
information. b. Maintains the internal ingredient specification file c. Ability to review and approve alternative ingredient

technical knowledge and suggestions for ongoing operations/quality improvement. 4) Marketing/Sales Technical Resource a. Provide the marketing/sales team with information detailing
formulation information. b. Understand and be able to speak about product lines to
educate the marketing/sales team. c. Provide immediate and ongoing information to sales about
new product development information in order to meet our customer centric goals. d. Provide samples as needed. 5) R&D/Commercialization Resource a. Understand the background of development projects and be
able to provide or search for information regarding prior development initiatives. b. Assists the Sr. Food Technologist 6) Procurement/Operations Resource a. Approve new suppliers, new ingredients, cost reductions and
ingredient consolidation b. Coordinate with Project Managers on SKU transitions between
bakeries 7) Proficient knowledge of general food quality testing
procedures and equipment a. Colorimeter (Hunter Color Scale) b. pH testing and understanding of the effects on food. c. Moisture testing and understanding of the effects on shelf
life. d. Water activity testing and understanding the effects on
microbial growth. e. Physical testing: weight, size, etc. f. Cooking validations g. Ability to consolidate this information into effect
specifications for quality team. 8) Knowledge of Concept to Commercialization processes. a. Ability to develop under Aryzta’s concept to
commercialization process. b. Meeting schedule deadlines require knowledge of
inter-workings of process and interdepartmental communications. 9) Ability to self-manage projects. a. Organization skills b. Time management skills c. Leadership skills d. Communication skills e. Technical document skills 10) Knowledge of Aryzta product offerings in those fields of
development responsibility. 11) Other duties as assigned. Required Skills Skills, Experience & Qualifications • AA/BS in Food Science or related field required or 1 to 2
years working as an industrial food developer required. Additional culinary development
experience preferred. • Proficient knowledge of Aryzta interfaces and software. Skilled at Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel. o Knowledgeable of SAP and Genesis. o Understanding of OEC Graphics, Discovery, SharePoint, etc. ARYZTA is proud to be an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity
