The Sensory Scientist provides the technical leadership and scientific expertise to effectively design and conduct innovative sensory and consumer test protocols and analyze the research data.  The resulting recommendations from this analysis are used to support projects that identify opportunities and diminish risks in the product development process, in raw material usage and product quality.

Key Responsibilities:

•Helps develop and implements sensory evaluation and consumer digging and evaluating protocols that provide consumer insight for the development of innovative product/package designs. 

•Develops analytical plan and analyzes complex sets of sensory and consumer data to help develop design insight

•Trains and leads panel of highly skilled descriptive panelists

•Assesses needs and develops protocols to ensure descriptive or conformance panels maintain skill level and are calibrated across panels

•Helps ensure the day to day quality of our products through monitoring sensory characteristics of our brands at all manufacturing sites

•Moderates focus groups.

•Leads or actively contributes to the Consumer Centered Design Process.

•Collaborates with Market Research to provide expertise on sensory evaluation and its link to consumer understanding

•Implements state-of-the-art sensory and consumer evaluation methodologies.

•Planning horizon, project basis

•Identifies and executes the appropriate Sensory and Consumer test methods to address R&D, Commercial and Supply project objectives.

•Decides which analytical/statistical methods should be used to properly analyze data

•Decides the most effective and efficient uses of technical resources

•Decides when additional panel training is required for project support and on-going panel calibration

•Recommends appropriate product prototypes for Sensory evaluation

•Recommends appropriate product prototypes for Consumer evaluation

•Recommends product, raw material, package and/or process changes/improvements based on sensory and consumer analysis

•Recommends panel time requirements

•Recommends the disposition of “out of conformance” product at plants sites

Key Functional Skills/Knowledge:

•Skilled in applied knowledge of a variety of sensory evaluation disciplines including Descriptive Analysis and Discrimination Testing

•Skilled in applied knowledge of a variety of consumer digging and evaluating methods

•Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data and conduct the appropriate statistical testing

•Excellent Descriptive or Conformance Panel leader

•Skilled in managing multiple projects at one time

•Write clear, concise and actionable reports based on complex data analysis.

•Work with a broad range of skills and professions across the business

•Demonstrates passion and continuous curiosity about consumer centered design

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
•Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or related field or Behavioral or Social Science fields.
•2 years’ experience in various aspects of sensory evaluation and consumer research (note:  if 0-1 years’ experience, Master’s Degree is required)
•Participation in sensory and/or consumer research and design symposiums is highly preferred
•Coursework in statistics
•Successful Completion of a drug and background screen

 

Preferred Requirements:
•Advanced Degree
•3+ years’ experience in various aspects of sensory evaluation and consumer research
•Demonstrated knowledge of Sensory Spectrum method. 
•Internships in related fields
