In Corporate Quality Assurance (CQA), the CQA Labeling Manager leads the processes of implementing corporate-wide product labeling systems to maintain regulatory labeling requirements and the integrity of Publix labeling programs.  This includes product labels for Publix manufactured and co-manufactured Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) and fresh department scale label products, including baked goods, deli salads, and meats.  The CQA Labeling Manager reports to the Director of CQA.

The primary responsibilities for this position include the following:

• being a subject matter expert on all regulatory requirements associated with product labeling,
• developing, researching, updating, and verifying product label information for Publix store brand products labels are compliant with applicable federal regulatory labeling laws,
• developing and approving Publix store brand products which bear a pesticide claim that require approval by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and state environmental regulatory agencies,
• developing and approving organic certified products for approval by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and our organic certifying agency, Quality Certification Services (QCS),
• collaborating with Marketing Customer Relationship Management Program Manager for the development of innovative product information while maintaining the integrity for any and all product claims, including health related claims,
• directing the development of nutritional content and coordinating with Marketing and Facilities for the development and implementation of nutritional signage for retail to comply with the Voluntary Nutritional Labeling,
• ensuring the accuracy of product label information at the point of first production, and
• leading, developing, and managing the CQA Labeling Compliance sub-department.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

• Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Nutrition or related field or equivalent years of experience and training
• 5 years in with food labeling (e.g., product development, food technology, food science) in a retail or manufacturing environment
• Certified Professional Food Manager (may be obtained within the first year of employment)
• Knowledge of Federal and State Regulatory requirements specific to product labeling, including the US Food and Drug Administration, US Department of Agriculture, US Environmental Protection Agency, and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission
• Knowledge of a retail supermarket and manufacturing processes and programs impacting product labeling and food safety
• Knowledge of food manufacturing practices

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Master of Science in Food Science or Nutrition
• 7 to 10 years in with food labeling in a retail or manufacturing environment
• Knowledge of Publix’s policies and guidelines for the management of salaried and hourly associates
• Knowledge of Publix data management systems (e.g. PIMS and PNMS) and labeling development systems
• Certified Food Scientist
• Registered Dietitian

 

Compensation:

 

$48,360 - $72,995/annually

 

Other Pay:

 

One month’s pay (pro-rated in the first year) if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check.

 

Work Location:

 

Lakeland, FL (between Tampa and Orlando)
