PRIMARY FUNCTION / PRIMARY GOALS / OBJECTIVES:
The Plant Food Safety Manager is accountable for all aspects of plant sanitation, including program strategy and results for manufacturing operations, warehouse and plant grounds. This role works under the direct supervision of the Plant QA Manager, and sets strategic direction under the guidance of the Director, Global Microbiology in Division QA. The purpose of the job is to drive all food safety standards throughout the plant through the development and implementation of food safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance policies and procedures.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.

Ensures compliance with all food safety policies and procedures including local, state and
federal regulations; and independent certifying agencies such as Safe Quality Food (SQF).
Ensures plant is in proper sanitary condition at all times, including allergen control and pest
control
Evaluates facility sanitary conditions visually and analytically, assesses risk based on food
safety and public health principles and prioritizes corrective actions
Works closely with engineering and maintenance to identify capital expense needs and ensure
appropriate preventative maintenance programs are utilized
Sets the direction for ongoing sanitation verification activities and validation testing (HACCP
concept)
Acts as sanitation lead in the process of assessing and mitigating food safety risks associated
with construction and major maintenance
Maintains and updates master cleaning schedule for plant meeting Good Manufacturing practices GMP) and Corporate guidelines.
Oversees environmental sampling program for monitoring of pathogenic organisms in plant
Oversees plant gowning requirements and implements improvements as needed
Responsible for plant HACCP team
Engages technical experts from corporate, industry experts, and chemical / equipment suppliers
to troubleshoot any sanitation challenges and identify novel technologies and methodologies that improve sanitation effectiveness
Directs Pest Control Operators and Dust Control Operators to assure compliance to all
regulations. (Pesticides, Clean Air Act-Title V, etc)
Develops and implements all sanitation related training for sanitation and plant employees
Ensures all safety requirements related to sanitation are met including proper chemical storage,
MSDS, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and procedures.
Applies statistical principles of monitoring and control where needed.
May perform other duties as assigned

ACCOUNTABILITY / SCOPE:
The Plant Food Safety Manager works under the direct supervision of the Plant QA Manager and as a key member of the plant management team. Position is responsible for all phases of sanitation, pest control, microbiological and cleaning programs for the site. The decision making process of this position is critical to the ongoing compliance of the production operation, and to the quality and safety of the food products.

Basic Qualifications:
Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for infant formula and nutritionals.

Supervisory experience is preferred.
Understands and can apply basic microbiological principles. In depth food borne pathogen knowledge.
Knowledge of HACCP and Sanitation principles
Knowledge of pest identification and control of their habitats
Understands appropriate wet cleaning and dry cleaning methodology. Able to identify the
appropriate cleaning method and can synthesize knowledge to evaluate situations and make effective recommendations based on scientific principles.
Experience in successfully addressing environmental sanitation challenges in areas such as drains, floors, walls, roofs, and equipment.
Thorough knowledge and experience with diverse sanitizing applications.
Understands the principles behind verification and validation methods and has experience in
application.
Effective written and oral communication. Ability to engage all levels of employees and ability to
work effectively with a diverse work force at all levels.

4-year degree in Technical or Scientific discipline or equivalent experience.

Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day)
