Friendly Ice Cream Corporation is currently seeking a Food Technologist to work in our Food Technology Department to support our ice cream business.

General Summary

The Food Technologist is responsible for:


1.  The coordination of complex and multi-disciplined product development projects with minimal supervision. This includes ensuring that objectives, budget, and timelines are met.

2. Conduct bench and plant trials to create prototypes for consumer testing.

3. The identification and/or innovative creation of new & unique concepts /ingredients/formulas/prototypes to achieve business goals of commercializing new products.

3.  Innovative and practical application/modification of existing technologies to achieve business goals of commercializing new products or line extensions.

4. Works in a team environment ensuring alignment with cross-functional partners including Marketing, QA, Manufacturing Engineering, Finance, Operations, and Purchasing.

5. Provide technical specifications and support to assure smooth rollouts of new products or line extensions into operations

6. Comprehensive product documentation to enable smooth commercialization and training of plant personnel.



  • This position requires the ability to interact and communicate effectively with Sr. Management as well as Plant Management. The Food Technologist must be a good problem solver, able to identify, interpret and analyze the correct data, and provide detailed directions to development projects.
  • Maintains active knowledge and understanding in areas beyond Product Development including Process Development, QA, Project Engineering, and thorough understanding of Marketing needs and financial hurdles
  • Sustain a high level of competence and professionalism in a dynamic business environment
  • Easily adapts to changing priorities



Position Specifications

  • B.S Food Science with Product Development emphasis
  • 3-5 years of related experience with a consumer packaged goods background - Desired experience with ice cream and bakery unit operations.
  • Excellent analytical skills, strong attention to details, good communications and interpersonal skills along with advanced math & computer skills
  • Ability to handle and lead multiple projects at any given time in a team environment.
  • Passion for food science and product development relating to innovation.
  • Familiar with consumer testing methodology including Concept Testing, Difference/Discrimination Testing


Work Conditions

Normal R&D - office/lab/plant environment with minimal travel to manufacturing locations.
