Summary
Responsible for
formulation of functional foods (drink mixes and bars) and chewable
supplements.
Essential
Functions
·
Develop
chewable tablet formulas with excellent nutritional characteristics,
flavor, and mouth-feel. Oversee scale-up such products to routine
commercial production.
·
Manage
and direct development of drink mix formulas with excellent nutritional
characteristics, flavor and mouth-feel. Assist with scale-up of such
products to routine commercial production.
·
Work
with suppliers to develop formulas for nutrition bars and to maintain
excellent product quality over time.
·
Assist
USANA’s manufacturing group in maintaining the quality of functional foods
and chewable supplements over time.
·
Manage
the company’s Genesis database of food formulas.
·
Ensure
that product formulas are accurately characterized on food and supplement labels.
·
Manage
and oversee in-house and third-party testing of food products to guarantee
label claims.
·
Assist
with design and implementation of in-house taste-panels and sensory
evaluation panels.
·
Assist
with adapting existing nutritional products to new international markets.
·
Maintain
current line of food products with formula upgrades and cost reducing
measures.
·
Perform
organoleptic stability testing of food products to ensure product quality
throughout shelf-life.
·
Manage
R&D Food lab
·
Manage
documentation of new formulas and raw materials into Agile.
·
Work
with the broader food development team in researching and developing new
product concepts.

Qualifications/Knowledge,
Skills, & Abilities Requirements
·
Bachelor
degree in food science or related discipline.
·
Masters
degree preferred.
·
5-8
years commercial experience in product development.
·
Excellent
verbal and written communication skills.
·
Computer
skills required.
·
Sensory
science skills.
·
Project
management skills.
·
Ability
to efficiently and effectively perform all essential position duties and
responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation.
