SUMMARY: Responsible for evaluating, creating, and improving various food products. Primarily Meats.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The person in this position is required to:

  • Consistently exercise discretion and judgment in relation to various products and evaluate production processes to determine areas needing improvement.
  • Support production personnel in all areas of production.
  • Coordinate projects to ensure quality products are being made.
  • Be responsible for sales projects and the creating of new products to meet customer needs.
  • Be expected to follow individual projects from initiation to completion.
  • Communicate clearly with suppliers to acquire ingredients for products.
  • Communicate well with other departments while setting specs and making recommendations for changes.
  • Complete paperwork in neat and timely fashion so that others viewing project files can understand all steps completed during the project.
  • Be available to work as needed with production, hours will vary according to the needs of the department.
  • Direct and manage R&D technicians.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelorís degree from a four year college or university in meat science is required. Must also have 2-3 years experience in the Protein Industry in product development.

VERBAL/WRITTEN SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

INFORMATION SYSTEMS SKILLS: Ability to manipulate data efficiently and effectively. Ability to demonstrate excellent research methods. Ability to draw conclusions from data, superior use of computer programs.

REASONING/DECISION MAKING SKILLS: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Responsible for technical understanding of job specific decisions.
