POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for organizing, supervising and conducting daily
research and development activities for Biodefense and Food Safety projects. These
responsibilities include designing experiments for assay research and
development, leading a project core team with multi-department team members,
and supervising laboratory personnel.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Key Responsibilities of the Job:
• Supervise and conduct laboratory experimental work
• Design and construction of Controls for QC release of products
• Be the liaison between Luminex and third parties
if outsourcing is desired
• Design evaluation experimental studies, data analysis, and summarize study
results and findings
• Troubleshooting experiments
• Lead role in writing protocols, kit documentation, SOPs and reports
• Provide advice and guidance to Biodefense and Food Safety and train
Associate Scientists.
• Openly interact with Director of Research to resolve critical issues and
concerns affecting performance of Research staff.
• Be part or lead of a project core team for evaluation studies
• Actively participate in the design and development of research projects
• Participate in design of grant and contract proposals
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Competencies:
• “Hands on” experience with nucleic acid laboratory procedures (e.g. Nucleic
acid isolation,PCR, RT-PCR), preferably on Luminex platforms
• “Hands on” experience with analytical protein detection procedures (ELISA,
Western blot, serodiagnostic) preferably on Luminex platforms
• Good theoretical and practical understanding of nucleic-acid and protein
detection technology in general
• Previous work experience in analytical or method validation, preferably in
GLP/GMP laboratory
• Must have reasonable understanding of Design Control (21 CFR 820, ISO
13485)
• High level of skill at writing scientific and technical documents, as
evidenced by authorship on publications

Required Education/Training:
• Minimum B.Sc. with 5 years relevant work experience; OR
• M.Sc with 2 years experience;
OR
• PhD. with 0 years experience
Required Certifications/License/Special Skills:
• Highly organized with proven time management and project management skills
• Good interpersonal skills
• Good written and verbal communication skills
Required Work Experience:
Minimum of 5 years experience in nucleic acid
and/or protein assay design or related experience
Minimum of 2 years in a biotech manufacturing related setting
Experience leading an assay design/development team
Experience in assay development in nucleic acids
Experience in a GMP and/or FDA regulated environment
Experience working independently in a fast-paced environment with rapidly
changing priorities
Experience with applying for and working with extramural funding
WORKING CONDITIONS

• Must work onsite at Luminex office at least 90%
of the time
• Travel may be required approximately: 10% of the time
• Possible exposure to biological or chemical hazard, extensive noise, and/or
working with lasers
• Work situations include dealing with people; working alone; making

of others
