Associate Scientist II, Biodefense and Food Safety

Research & Development | Austin, TX


This position is responsible for supervising and conducting day-to-day work in the Biodefense and Food Safety Laboratory – mainly the generation and analysis of experimental data. The position also involves design of experiments, troubleshooting of failed experiments, checking data records for integrity, writing of study protocols, reports, SOPs and other documents, presentation of results and some project management.


Key Responsibilities of the Job:

• Conduct experimental work in the laboratory

• Participatory and occasional lead role in managing projects

• Providing advice & guidance to Associate Scientist I and Technicians

• Checking study data files for integrity

• Detailed analysis of experimental data

• Troubleshooting of failed experiments

• Major contributions to the writing of study protocols and study reports

• Typically the lead role in writing SOPs

• Summarizing and presenting results and reports

• Additional tasks as need arises



• “Hands on” experience with protein and nucleic acid laboratory procedures

• Previous work experience in analytical or method validation, GLP/GMP laboratory a plus

• Skill at writing scientific and technical documents

• Learning on the Fly—learns quickly/open to change

Required Education/Training:

• Minimum B.Sc. with 2 years relevant work experience

Required Certifications/License/Special Skills:

• Highly organized with proven time management and project management skills

• Good interpersonal skills

• Good written and verbal communication skills

Required Work Experience:

• Experience in assay development in nucleic acids or proteins

• Experience working independently in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities


• Must work onsite at Luminex office at least 90% of the time

• Travel may be required approximately: 10% of the time

• Work is performed in a typical laboratory environment. Occasional work in a BSL-II laboratory is required.

• Possible exposure to biological or chemical hazards
