Drives food safety and health improvements by
reviewing food safety audit and regulatory inspection reports; identifying
processes, standards, and policies to ensure stores and clubs operate in a safe and compliant
manner; initiating and monitoring action plans; reviewing and interpreting
food safety test results; analyzing and reporting metrics; developing
communications in response to compliance concerns; and consulting with and advising internal and external stakeholders. Participates in the development and implementation of strategic plan
objectives by developing new, enhanced processes and procedures to manage risk; analyzing new regulations and executing plans to ensure
compliance; generating new metrics, trend reports, tracking tools, and training tools; collaborating with stakeholders to reduce regulatory
findings; and recommending new risk management approaches for enhanced compliance. Responds to urgent risk management situations by reviewing
regulatory issues, requests, and inquiries; assessing new and emerging
issues; evaluating industry related outbreaks and recalls and the potential
impact on business; advising on store-related food recalls and withdrawals; developing initial responses to media inquiries; investigating
alleged illnesses, outbreaks, allergic reactions, foreign objects, and
tampering events; and manage communicable disease incidents. Drives the execution of multiple business plans and projects for
Food Safety by identifying customer and operational needs; developing and communicating business plans and priorities; removing barriers and
obstacles that impact performance; providing resources; identifying performance standards; measuring progress and adjusting performance
accordingly; developing contingency plans; and demonstrating adaptability and supporting continuous learning. Provides supervision and development opportunities for associates by
selecting and training; mentoring; assigning duties; building a team-based work environment; establishing performance expectations and
conducting regular performance evaluations; providing recognition and
rewards; coaching for success and improvement; and ensuring diversity
awareness. Promotes and supports company policies, procedures, mission, values,
and standards of ethics and integrity by training and providing direction to others in their use and application; ensuring compliance with them;
and utilizing and supporting the Open Door Policy. Ensures business needs are being met by evaluating the ongoing
effectiveness of current plans, programs, and initiatives; consulting with
business partners, managers, co-workers, or other key stakeholders;
soliciting, evaluating, and applying suggestions for improving efficiency
and costeffectiveness; and participating in and supporting community outreach events
The ideal candidate has 5 to 7 years of food
safety experience in food retail, food service, or food manufacturing sector
and 2 to 3 years experience managing others. Experience in a third party
consulting firm or regulatory agency is also valid. He or she must have
knowledge of HACCP, food audits, foodborne
pathogens, and the food code. They must have a minimum of Bachelors degree
in Food Microbiology, Food Science or related field. This person must have
effective communication and influence skills. He or she must be highly
organized, analytical, and an excellent problem solver.
Graduate degree in Food Microbiology, Food
Science or related field is desired. Registered Environmental Health Specialist or Certified Food Safety
Professional is also beneficial.
