POSITION SUMMARY:
Media preparation for Microbiology and Sterility testing area. Position duties may also include sampling and examinations of aseptically filled and terminally sterilized finished products to confirm their conformance to established quality standards for commercial stenlity.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES

  • 'Prepares media and maintains and document records in accordance with established procedures
  • 'Microbiological sampling and examinations including, but not limited to, testing aseptic and terminally sterilized low-acid nutritional beverages for adherence to commercial sterility standards by pour plate streak, pH, vacuum, package evaluation, dimensional parameters, and other related physical and biological characteristics.
  • 'Prepare, review, and report results of commercial sterility testing; maintain and document records in accordance with established procedures
  • 'Periodic maintenance and calibrations of analytical instrumentation and equipment
  • 'Tracking, ordering and stocking laboratory supplies
  • 'Clean-up and general maintenance of laboratory and work area
  • 'Performs other duties as assigned
  • Throughout all responsibilities, maintains a focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

HOURS/SHIFT:

  • 15 hr/week during the school year and 40 hr/week over the summer, flexibility in shifts and hours worked, education is still top priority for candidate selected; position will last through 2012, possibly longer based on business need

REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:

  • Required: High school degree or equivalent, course work in Biology.
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology, Biology, Food Science, or related technical field, Microbiology work experience.

EXPERIENCE:

None required.

SKILLS:

  • 'Ability to accurately adhere to established Standard Operating Procedures, Lab Methods, and Guidelines.
  • 'Technical expertise in laboratory techniques
  • 'PC spreadsheet and word processing ability
  • 'Must be organized and able to prioritize
  • 'Detailed oriented approach to assignments
  • 'Good communication skills
