This job reports to the Global Quality Director.

Relocation is negotiable and travel is required occasionally.

This is a Full-Time position, working 1st Shift.

Overview
This person will assist in developing product formulations related to the food color industry that will support sales of our products. He/she will provide global support and coordination for the scale up of caramel and other natural color products developed or revised by the S&I Team. Primary responsibility will be to run regular lab analysis on various equipment.

Pilot Plant Work
- Support development of product formulations through understanding of food and chemical interactions and creating finished products on pilot scale equipment.
- Operate pilot plant research cooker for process/ingredient evaluation and new product development. Provide suggestions from observations during the cooking process.
- Successfully run scale-up trials of new products on the 50 gal cooker.
- Operate Ultra filtration unit, Agglomerator, and other pilot plant equipment to support product development.
- Follow company product development procedures and safe operating procedures.
Laboratory
- Run routine analytical tests and interpret the results in support of S&I and manufacturing pilot equipment; may include periodic work with GC/LCMS
- Document and record experimental trials and outcomes

Production Support
- Develop procedures according to safety and quality guidelines for scale up to manufacturing.
- Responsible for housekeeping and sanitation of the pilot production area and the food lab.
- Work with Product Support Chemist and local maintenance support to ensure preventive maintenance and safety of all pilot equipment.
- Assist in knowledge transfer for new products and trouble shooting at manufacturing sites.
Actively participate in Quality Improvement Process.

- Bachelor’s in Food Science or related Science; or comparable experience in industrial technology in the food industry.
- Must be competent performing basic lab analysis and testing. Ability to run GCMS/LCMS a plus.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; competent with technology to perform research and log/manage data derived from pilot plant work.
