Summary: Plans and conducts activities concerned with the quality assurance of industrial processes, materials, products, and food safety by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Designs, specifies, initiates, and installs quality control sampling systems, standards, test and other equipment utilizing knowledge in engineering fields such as chemical, electrical, or mechanical.
• Leads and/or assists in the development of GMPs and HACCP Plans, quality control policies and procedures and quality standards.
• Leads and/or facilitates internal and external contacts in problem solving and/or Corrective and Preventive Action activities.
• Investigates and solves manufacturing related problems in assigned area using formal problem solving tools.
• Analyzes and develops suppliers, products, and methods to obtain maximum productivity and reviews performance in operations and provides suggestions for improvements.
• Establishes program to evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment and testing, measurement, and analytical equipment and facilities using Gage R&R, DOE, Statistics and other common Quality Engineering tools.
• Directs workers engaged in measuring and testing product and tabulating data concerning materials, product, or process quality and reliability.
• Facilitate/lead plant microbiology testing program including data analysis, trending, reporting and recommendations for improvement.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• GMPs / HAACP / SQF requirements
• Control Plan / Failure Mode Effect and Analysis development
• Containment execution, evaluation, training, tracking, reduction and elimination.
• Line walk, integration, training and coaching of assigned Quality systems and processes.
• PPAP packages – management to time lines, delegation, escalation and assembly.
• Initiation, approval and implementation of Operator Instructions.
• Statistical Process Control – implementing, interpreting, evaluating, reactions plans and maintenance.
• Responds to customer concerns (on-site if necessary) by doing proper root cause analysis, and meeting with the appropriate parties (customer or internal) to develop immediate corrective/preventive actions.
• Responds promptly to customer concerns with initial and final 8D’s (as necessary per dept. SOPs).
• Uses independent judgment to determine how and when to obtain relevant information and meet customer needs, including: attending mold trials, initiating training, initiating meetings with the customer, supplier, or other applicable internal resources involved in the program.
• Monitors performance of clients’ jobs using statistical & quantitative data (PPM level, inspection accuracy).
• Uses discretion, judgment, & experience to determine when to initiate continuous improvement efforts. Works directly with Engineering, Materials, Floor Quality, & Production to involve appropriate personnel, conduct analyses, devise action plans, and implement/monitor those plans.
• Files Trip Reports describing which customer personnel were met with, and what was accomplished.
• Compiles reports as necessary.

Education and/or Experience

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; 3+ years Quality Engineering experience in food manufacturing/packaging environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

ASQ Certified Quality Engineer / Quality Auditor

Safe Quality Food Practitioner / HAACP Manager Certification

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, suppliers, or employees.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
