The food processing technologist is supporting the process development for shelf stable foods and spans all existing and future packaging formats as formulated to foods. This position is to ensure compliance with the established procedures and standards to deliver products of the highest quality.
Process development can entail scale-up of novel or existing products and packages, or support commercial and pilot plant Commissioning Validation and Start-Up activities of new equipment installations.
A high level of collaboration is expected internally with R&D department, Innovation, Quality Services, and externally with Operations, Engineering, Service Vendors and Regulatory. He should attend all related to new product development activities; actively participate in the implementation of various improvement projects ensuring compliance with established procedures; support integration and production of new products; establish and maintain product specifications; participate in the implementation of process optimization projects; exercise watch the competition, analyze and proactively anticipate trends and the impact on the market.
The technologist should be an effective organizational capacity to carry out a variety of tasks in a dynamic and complex environment.

  • Collaboration with product, process and packaging developers on existing and new shelf stable products to deliver product performance (palatability, appearance, etc.) and food safe regulatory compliance;
  • Test plan development, experiment setup and preparation, test execution and data analysis to quantify key processing parameters (critical factors);
  • Assist in the establishment of processes in support of new products/processes and improvement/modifications to existing processes;
  • Develop and maintenance of data collections systems for all supporting process date and ensure calibration adherence;
  • Develop and maintenance of all key process data, heat penetration, temperature/hear distribution tests, etc.;
  • Implement long-term process development activities coordination with Operations Engineering and Product/Process Technology teams;
  • Assist in the development of pilot plant capability to deliver optimized process times to factory;
  • Contribution to and Involvement with global food stabilization organization;
  • Interaction with external process authorities and relationships with regulatory bodies (FDA, USDA, State of TN, BRC, etc.);
  • Design appropriate test methods and data analysis to yield thermal processes that ensure food safety while delivering optimal quality;
  • Project coordination, management and communication;
  • Development of alternative analytical methods for monitoring and measuring critical factors.
  • Understanding of processing specialists responsibilities;
  • Working knowledge of process science and industry best practices;
  • Ability to plan and coordinate activities in the lab, pilot plant and commercial environment;
  • Ability to use SAP, Microsoft Excel, Word, Redmine, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes;
  • Engineering fundamentals and familiarity with experimental design and statistical data analysis;
  • Self-starter with assertive project ownership qualities;
  • Demonstrated abilities to be creative and innovative;
  • Familiar with appropriate regulations;
  • Familiarity with food manufacturing processes and change control environment;
  • Understand food microbiology principles.
  • 1-3 years in food processing technical field (engineering, food science, chemistry) with industry experience;
  • Strict regimen in laboratory preparedness and documentation diligence;
  • Technical degree with 1-3 years industry experience (engineering, food science, chemistry, microbiology).
