nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Food
Science with a specialization in sensory science and food product
development. This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position
within the Programs in Hospitality Management, Culinary Arts, and Food
Science. The starting date is September 1, 2009. Salary is competitive.
Qualifications: The successful applicant will have an earned doctorate
in Food Science or a related field. Experience in the food industry and
university or college teaching is a plus. The ability to work collaboratively
with on-campus colleagues and off-campus constituencies, to thrive in an
urban and multicultural setting, and to utilize technology-enhanced learning
tools is essential. An entrepreneurial spirit and excellent interpersonal,
written, and oral communication skills are critical to success.
Responsibilities: Primary teaching responsibilities will include
various aspects of food science and may include but are not limited to
introductory foods, food product development, taste and odor, functional
foods, and food chemistry. Teaching opportunities also exist in Culinary Arts
courses. Research and scholarship activities are expected and should be
related to some aspect of food product development or sensory science.
Release time from teaching for scholarship and service activities will be
negotiated annually and will vary depending on the candidate's success in
research and funding initiatives as well as any developing needs of the
College. Collaboration with local commercial and governmental bodies dealing
with food product manufacture and control is strongly encouraged. Service
activities include program and college committees and participation in
student recruitment events.
