DIRECTOR
The Illinois Institute of Technology's National Center for Food Safety and
Technology (NCFST), is seeking a director. Founded in 1988, NCFST is a unique
food research consortium of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center
for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), Illinois Institute of
Technology (IIT), and the food industry. NCFST was established to provide a
collaborative environment where scientists from industry, academia, and
government can pool their scientific expertise and institutional perspectives
to ensure the production of safe and nutritious food.
NCFST has a staff of 90, a facility with laboratories including select agent
facilities, 55,000 sq. ft. of pilot plant space, and an extensive library.
NCFST in cooperation with the FDA also operates a biosafety level 3 (BSL-3)
laboratory and biocontainment pilot plant. NCFST's biochemistry and nutrition
laboratory and Clinical Nutrition Research Center support the nutrition and
health promoting foods research platform. NCFST also houses IIT's graduate
program in food safety and technology and food processing engineering,
offering masters and certificate programs.
The selection committee is looking for a candidate with an international
scientific reputation in food safety and technology as well as a proven
ability to lead a multi-stakeholder research organization. The ideal
applicant will have a PhD and broad experience working across academia,
industry, government, exhibit outstanding communication skills, and
demonstrate an ability to establish partnerships and relationships with a
broad spectrum of related organizations and stakeholders. Other key skill
sets include a commitment to excellence, results, and people, a collaborative
style, and seasoned leadership and management experience, including budget
management. Candidates should demonstrate a flexible and forward-looking
leadership style. Experience with communicating complex scientific and
regulatory issues to the media, government and other stakeholders will be an
advantage. The position also includes an opportunity for a suitable candidate
to become a faculty member with the Illinois Institute of Technology.
