MINNEAPOLIS,
Jan. 24 (UPI) --
Health officials have linked a
third death in Minnesota
to a Salmonella outbreak that has affected 43 states and claimed seven lives
nationwide.
The Minnesota Health Department
said the latest victim was a woman in her 80s living in a long-term care
facility, the Star Tribune reported Saturday. Her name, where she was living
and the date of her death were not released, the Minneapolis newspaper said.
The two other Minnesotans who died
after testing positive for the Salmonella strain lived in nursing homes in
Brainerd that had served peanut butter later found to contain the bacteria.
All three had other medical problems and health officials have not confirmed
whether Salmonella killed them.
Several food companies have
recalled about 200 products containing a peanut butter product that came from
a Peanut Corp. of America
plant in Georgia
suspected to be the source of the contamination.
