Food Safety Specialist needed

FUNCTIONS AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Daily
implementation of Sunkist food safety/security policy for fresh fruit.
- Performs
internal audits of Sunkist-affiliated facilities including packing,
harvest and growing operations. Maintains database of third-party
audits.
- Communicates
with customer QA staff on food safety compliance.
- Conducts
routine mock recalls.
- Develops and
conducts educational programs on GMPs and GAPs for shippers and growers.
- Assists in
continued development of food safety initiatives such as HACCP programs,
updating GaPs programs, product traceability
and database management systems.
- Communicates and
interacts with Sunkist staff (sales, marketing, QA, grower relations,
fruit sciences) to coordinate food safety with other company functions.
- Communicates
and interacts with packinghouse management, growers, co-packers/
re-packers, industry associations, university and government
researchers, regulatory personnel, third-party auditors.
CONTACTS WITH OTHERS:
Internal contact with sales,
marketing, QA, legal, grower relations, fruit sciences. External contact with
shippers, growers, customers, co-packers/re-packers, industry associations,
university and government researchers, regulatory personnel, third-party
auditors.
EDUCATION
REQUIREMENTS:
B.S. in food science, food
technology, microbiology, crop sciences or similar field.
EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of 3 years experience
implementing quality assurance and/or food safety programs in food
operations.
- Experience with produce is highly
desirable.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations related
to food production.
- Experience implementing HACCP programs.
- Experience with mock product recalls, GMPs, developing Standard Operating Procedures.
- Excellent ability to communicate
effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to lift 40 pound
cartons of fruit.
