Cargill's meat business, headquartered in Wichita, KS, is comprised of Cargill Beef, Pork, Food Distribution, Case Ready, Regional Beef, Value Added Meats Food Service, Value Added Meats Retail and Cargill Cattle Feeders.  We employ approximately 35,000 worldwide  and has processing facilities and sales offices in the US, Canada, and Australia, and international business offices in Australia, China, Honduras, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.


Cargill Pork has an exciting opportunity for a Food Scientist or Sr Food Scientist position in Wichita, KS. This role will conduct research aligned with business needs for purposes of new product development, new process development, process improvement, technical sales support, and trouble shooting.  Research can include the entire process from discovery to commercialization or segments of the process.  The purpose of this position is to provide technical expertise and project leadership to: 1) New product development for product line growth, 2) Process development for the creation of new capabilities and/or labor expense reduction efforts, 3) Creation, perfection, and defense of new and existing IP, 4) Involvement in strategic plan and creation of a center of excellence and collaboration, and 5) Provides positive mentor and technical assistance to Jr. team members through coaching.


Principal Accountabilities:

         35% - Research and develop innovative customer focused new products, services, and solutions that deliver commercially viable new products.

         30% - Provide technical leadership in product and process development and improvement, quality systems, and regulatory oversight.

         20% - Deliver high performance innovation, supporting core and new products

         10% - Build business unit, CAP platform and Cargill Corporate collaboration and product technical expertise to team members

           5% - Build, maintain and defend IP portfolio





         Bachelor's of Science or equivalent  experience in food/meat science, culinary arts, hotel/restaurant management or food processing is necessary.

         Minimum of 5 years experience in new product development, commercialization of new products, and/or research.

         Highly motivated individual with a strong background in scientific procedure and project management skills are required.  Data analysis, experimental design, and technical writing and effective vocal communication skills are also required.

         This position requires a high level of proficiency using Microsoft Office and email.  Previous experience with statistical software is highly preferred

         Travel - 30-50%


         A Masters, PhD or equivalent experience is highly preferred

         Previous experience in retail and/or food service, operations, and/or management is highly preferred

         Knowledge and experience in experimental design and project execution
