global economy. We currently have an opportunity available for a Food
Scientist. This position will be based out of our Food Group Tech Center in
Caldwell, ID.
SUMMARY
Design new food products form conception through introduction in the market
place. Perform laboratory and pilot plan experiments and be responsible for
implementation of new products at the plant level. Conduct product and
process development, manage projects following New Product Introduction
protocols and utilize project management techniques. Assists production
facilities in solving operational problems. Contribute to new concepts and/or
processes into commercialization for purposes of cost savings, quality
improvement, line extension for new products and/or processes into
commercialization for proposes of cost savings, quality improvement, line
that improves the food groups profitability.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop new
products and processes by directing and conducting project experiments,
creating experimental design, Interpreting experimental results, developing
preliminary QA specifications, participating in plant startups, communicating
results and making recommendations to the appropriate groups.
• Lead assigned projects using New Product Introduction processes and project
management techniques. Manage and coordinate cross functional teams including
but not limited to marketing, operations, QA, sales, accounting, logistics,
packaging and R&D to discuss and complete all aspects of assigned
projects. Facilitate open avenues of communication, ensure that tasks are on
schedule and constantly assess projects progress, making sure of its success.
• Provide proper documentation for project management, lab experiments, plant
tests, historical reference, training, and protection of intellectual
properties and trade secrets through patents.
• Contribute to cost improvement and qualify improvement of existing products
and processes. Assist the plants in solving operational problems by directing
and conducting project experiments. Interpreting experimental results,
executing and communicating results and making recommendations to the
appropriate groups.
• Direct and train technical support staff. Supervise assigned pilot
projects. Contribute to the maintenance or upgrading of safety and good
manufacturing practices or R&TS and production skills.
• Contribute to the Food Groups profitability by suggesting innovative product
and process ideas and follow through with development and implementation.
• Provide technical assistance to appropriate groups with knowledge of
ingredients, equipment, processes, and packaging and outside personnel with
expertise in the food industry for the Food Group by making and maintaining
contact with outside suppliers and consultants.
REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's
degree (B.S.) in a technical field, preferably Food Science, from four-year
College or university.
• Five plus years related experience and/or training - or an M.S. in science
related field.
• Must be knowledgeable in the following areas: Ingredient functionality,
project management, production equipment, pilot plant operations, good
manufacturing practices, and food testing techniques, statistics,
experimental design, spreadsheet and word processing computer programs,
industry vendors, Simplot customer base and competitors in the industry.
• Knowledge of Simplot’s business practices including the relationship
between sales, marketing, QA, operations and R&D.
• Must have a strong technical background and be able to communicate
effectively, both verbal and written with good interpersonal skills.
• Ability to plan, organizes, execute and document effectively.
• Ability to work well independently as well as within teams.
• Ability to communicate well with vendors and customers at any level.
