About the Position: The Food Engineering Services Team, Combat Feeding Directorate, U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center (NSRDEC), is a Customer-Driven, Customer-Focused organization. The NSRDEC is the Science Behind the Soldier. Through our research, development, engineering and technology transfer of products and systems (such as clothing and individual soldier equipment, rations and field feeding equipment, personnel and cargo airdrop systems, and shelters), the NSRDEC plays a vital role to maximize the effectiveness of America's military. Major Duties:
You will serve as a Food Technologist in subsistence commodity area for the preparation and coordination of performance-based procurement documents and for processing Engineering Support to Procurement actions. You will prepare revisions and engineering change proposals to detailed specifications and performance-based contract requirements documents involving complex technical changes, prepare, coordinate and approve new documents on items of the most complex nature. This includes the preparation of the new performance-based contract requirements in developing the initial draft including a brief description of scope of the document, ensuring that product requirements are stated in performance terms, providing adequate and accurate quality assurance provisions in accordance with recognized statistical sampling methods, and unique military packaging requirements. You will review draft Federal specifications and Commercial Item Descriptions prepared by other DoD and Federal agencies.

General Schedule

  THIS POSITION HAS A MANDATORY EDUCATION REQUIREMENT A) Degree: food technology, or dairy technology, microbiology, biology, chemistry, physics, or a related discipline or field of biological or physical science. The course work must have been comprised of at least 30 semester hours in the basic biological and physical sciences, and included at least 20 semester hours in food technology and closely related subjects, or 20 semester hours in subjects that can be applied directly to food technology. OR B) Combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major, including the course work specified, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Qualified candidates for this job must show in their resume that they possess one year of specialized experience that provided the knowledge of and skill in the characteristics, properties, processing methods, evaluation, test requirements, acceptable quality levels, and packaging requirements of food products and operational rations. Resume must show knowledge or experience in preparing or revising engineering change proposals, preparation of the performance-based contract requirements documents and reviewing drafts to ensure they meet required specifications or Commercial Item Descriptions. This specialized experience should be equivalent to at least the GS-9 level.

  Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

  Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act Career Field Position.

  This is an Army Acquisition, Logistics and Technology Workforce position. Selectees must meet position requirements for certification at Level II in Acquisition Career Field Systems Planning, Research Development, and Engineering within 24 months of entrance on duty.

  Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

  Direct Deposit of Pay is Required.
