Clinical Instructor/ASTP of Nutrition and Food Science #56700 – Statesboro, GA

Georgia Southern University, a member institution of the University System of Georgia, invites
nominations and applications for the position of Clinical Instructor/Assistant Professor of Nutrition and
Food Science in the Department of Health and Kinesiology in the College of Health and Human
Sciences.

Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Department, the successful candidate will teach
undergraduate courses in food science, meal management, normal and therapeutic nutrition and may
teach graduate courses in sports nutrition. In addition, the successful candidate will provide academic
advisement to undergraduate and graduate students; promote and sustain interdisciplinary dialogue
and service; hold membership in professional associations/organizations; and serve on committees
and participate in official activities at the departmental, college, and university levels. At the Assistant
Professor level, the successful candidate will also conduct research and mentor undergraduate and
graduate students in the areas of nutrition, food science, and dietetics; secure external grants and
contracts to support research and training programs; and promote and sustain interdisciplinary
research. The position is a nine month appointment with possibilities for summer teaching. The salary
is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Nutrition, Food Science, Dietetics or closely related area by August 1, 2010,
for Clinical Instructor position (Non-tenure Track)
• Earned doctorate in Nutrition, Food Science, Dietetics or closely related area by August 1,
2010, for Assistant Professor position (Tenure Track)
• Commitment to excellence in teaching and learning as evidenced by a presentation during the
campus visit with students present
• Promise of productive scholarship consistent with the teacher-scholar model (Assistant
Professor level)
• Commitment to teaching, scholarship, and service that is consistent with the College’s
priorities for the Department and the mission of the University
• Ability to contribute to a positive work environment in the Department, College, and University
• Technological literacy and a commitment to integrate technology in teaching and scholarship
• Commitment to professional service within the University and beyond
Preferred Qualifications:
• Registered Dietitian or registry eligible
• Minimum of one year of college/university teaching experience in Nutrition and Food Science
• Interest in and experience with writing and/or administrating a CADE-Accredited Dietetic
Internship
• Interest in working in diverse academic and professional communities
