PRIMARY
FUNCTION:
Responsible for executing the Food safety &
Quality Assurance programs and processes for Target Owned Brand non-perish
food products. The primary focus includes working with Owned Brand and
category buying teams in the review and approval of all prospective and
current vendor manufacturing facilities for food safety and quality
assurance programs and practices, quality management systems, and
regulatory compliance. The primary objective is to ensure that Owned Brand
vendor manufacturing facilities are in compliance with both Target’s and
regulatory agency requirements for food safety and product quality. The
scope of responsibility includes the initial review and approval of
individual vendor manufacturing facilities through first production product
review and approval and product quality improvements throughout the product
lifecycle.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.
Review and
approve all prospective Owned Brand Foods vendor manufacturing facilities
for production of Target’s food products.
o
Review and
approve 3rd party vendor facility audits and corrective action plans.
o
Review vendor
HACCP plans and food safety programs to ensure compliance with Target
requirements.
o
Conduct an
on-site, food safety risk assessment.
2.
Maintain
information within the Owned Brand vendor facility database, including
production locations, item attributes, and required food safety
documentation.
3.
Work closely
with the Buying team and Product Development team to ensure food safety,
product quality, and regulatory compliance standards and requirements are
being met throughout the Product Development & Design process.
4.
Review and
approve food product specifications for analytical, microbiological, and
physical attributes.
5.
Review First
Production run samples to ensure compliance to Target specifications.
Record and document results. Work with vendors to resolve issues.
6.
Continually
manage and assess vendor performance and product quality.
o
Review and act
on guest contact feedback and product quality audit results.
o
Identify quality
trends which require corrective action; work with vendors for prompt
resolution.
o
Develop metrics
to effectively communicate vendor performance in meeting Target food safety
and quality standards and requirements.

Identify
opportunities for improving current food safety and quality assurance
programs and processes.
REPORTING/WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Works with Food Safety & Quality Assurance; Nutrition,
Labeling & Regulatory Compliance; Owned Brand Product Development;
Owned Brand Foods and Category Buying Teams; Legal; Store Food Operations;
and Food Distribution.
External: Works directly with Owned Brand Food vendors, external
audit and inspection services. Interacts with external trade and
professional associations to maintain food safety and regulatory compliance
technical expertise.
This position reports to: Program Lead, Food Safety & Quality
Assurance, Non-Perishables.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

B.S. in Food
Science, Food Microbiology or related discipline
·
5-7 years in
food QA, food manufacturing or related experience with consumer packaged
foods
·
Technical and
working knowledge of food safety, HACCP, food GMPs
·
Experienced and
knowledgeable in several product categories or technical platforms
·
Knowledge of
regulatory agency requirements for the processing of consumer food products
·
Excellent
organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
·
Demonstrated ability
to work effectively as a cross-functional team member
·
Strong computer
skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access)
·
Ability to
travel as required
