Summary:
This Supervisory Consumer Safety Inspector (SCSI) position is an
excellent opportunity for those seeking a greater challenge and

protecting public health.
SPECIFIC INFORMATION FOR THIS POSITION:
SCSI, AI-1862-3/4 (salary range $37,075-$64,403)
Establishment: P 72, Tyson Foods Inc located in YELL County.
Work Schedule: 1st Shift, Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Poultry Slaughter & Processing; Export Certification; Young Chicken.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is a public health
regulatory agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Our
mission is to protect consumers by ensuring that the commercial
supply of meat*, poultry, and egg products moving in interstate
commerce or exported to other countries is safe, wholesome and
correctly labeled and packaged.
* The "Food Conservation and Energy Act of 2008", also referred
to
as the "2008 Farm Bill", was signed into Law on June 18, 2008.
The
Farm Bill amends the Federal Meat Inspection Act (FMIA) to include
Catfish as an amenable species under the Act.
FSIS is operating under the Public Health Human Resources System
(PHHRS), a Pay Banding and Pay for Performance Demonstration

Investigation
Major Duties:
As a SCSI you will be a subordinate supervisor to a Supervisory
Veterinary Medical Officer (SVMO)in a large slaughter plant. You
will:
* monitor, assign, direct, review, and evaluate the work of line
Food Inspectors (FI) and off-line CSI's
* insure appropriate breaks are provided and that relief inspectors
are utilized as necessary
* provide training to new inspectors and to all inspectors as needed
on new inspection procedures and techniques
* verify regulatory compliance with the full range of Sanitation and
Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) and with Hazard Analysis and
Critical Control Point (HACCP) requirements
* verify corrective actions taken to deal with product contamination
and will prepare non-compliance documentation
Qualifications:
To qualify at the AI-3 level, you must have at least 52 weeks of
specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 in federal
service. To qualify at the AI-4 level, you must have at least 52
weeks of specialized experience in federal service at the GS-9 or
AI-3 level. You must have completed the 52 weeks of specialized
experience within 30 days after the closing date of this
announcement. Specialized experience includes:
* working with the Federal Meat, Poultry, and Egg Products
Inspection Acts in order to inspect meat, poultry, and egg products
* working with basic SSOP and HACCP principles and practices in
order to verify plant HACCP and SSOP responsibilities
* performing basic mathematic and elementary statistical concepts
and methods to perform testing and sampling procedures and
experience reaching and interpreting conclusions
* Past or present supervisory experience will enhance your
qualifications for this position

* This position has a training program requirement as a condition
of employment. If selected, you must successfully complete a 2-3
week training program at a designated location which may require
travel outside the duty location for an extended period. The
training you will attend is called the Food Safety Regulatory
Essentials (FSRE). The type of class you will attend will be based
on your assignment. For example, if your assignment covers raw
products, you will attend the two week course for raw products. If
your assignment covers not shelf stable, ready-to-eat/not ready-to-
eat products, you will attend the three week course. You must begin
the training within 90 days of the effective date of your selection,
and you must successfully complete it within 12 months of the
effective date of your selection. Failure to successfully complete
the training may result in returning you to your former position, or
like position at the same or lower grade (depending on availability
and the needs of the Agency) or removal from Federal Service.
* A pre-employment physical may be required.
* This announcement may be used to fill additional like vacancies
should any occur in the announced duty location.
* If selected at the AI-3 level, and the position has promotion
potential to the AI-4 level, you may be promoted to the AI-4, upon
completion of 12 months of satisfactory performance.
