Job Description:

Ensures food safety and quality of all products produced. Responsible for ensuring specifications are defined and communicated, formalizing process capability, institutionalizing process control and predictive quality process. Performs inspections of processes, employee training, compliance with applicable food laws and regulations and verifies plant HACCP plans. Defines best lab practices and provides guidance and adherence to quality policies. Actively participates in resolving customer complaints. Integral part of plant leadership team. Provides support to Sales, R&D and Operations on customer issues, questions and concerns.

Responsibilities:

·         Ensure allergens are being managed appropriately to prevent cross contamination

·         Ensure all plant sanitation process to meet ConAgra and regulatory standards

·         Summarize technical data monthly to identify defect trends and corrective actions

·         Trains and motivates subordinates in the performance of their duties

·         Responds to all customer complaints involving technical or quality issues

·         Monitors and maintains Sanitation & GMP procedures for the plant to meet ConAgra and regulatory standards

·         Conducts GMP and sanitation audits of operations and warehouse areas

·         Represents the Quality Control department in all departmental meetings

·         Monitors and maintains the “Hold”, Rework and Return programs

·         Responsible for disposition of all held product with input from the Plant Manager as needed

·         Acts as liaison for all technical and quality issues between operations and sales departments

·         Represents the Archbold facility in all regulatory activities

·         Monitor and maintain the plant insect and rodent control programs

·         Monitor and maintain the HACCP program

·         Any other duties as assigned

·         Manage Plant timelines and critical milestones for the Food safety and Quality Improvement Plan

·         Support Use of Toolboxes (SPC, Key Concepts of Quality, SQF, 6 Sigma, CPS -ConAgra Performance System, etc….) to measure and control quality systems and processes for improvement

·         Maintain Key Concepts of Quality and SQF Programs

·         Ensure plant is in compliance with corporate policies. Track compliance and gaps

·         Work closely with RQI on product developments and quality issues

·         Subject Matter Expert for Plant Sap QM Module

·         Develop and maintain an internal audit process with regards to lab standard work

·         Lead and support the achievement of plant operations quality goals

·         Establish and train associates on change management

·         Use lean techniques to eliminate/reduce operating costs, cycle times, and non-value added activities

·         Drive consumer complaint reduction

·         Works closely with Operations to drive Quality ownership to the floor

·         Equipment Operation:

·         Computer knowledge to include Microsoft Word, Excel, Access

·         Automated chemical testing equipment

·         Physical Demands:

·         Regularly lift and / or move up to 10 lbs

·         Ocassionally lift and / or move up to 50 lbs

 

Education / Experience / Skills:

 

·         BS Degree required in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science or other related field

·         Thermal processing experience required with canning regulations

·         Five years experience in QA/QC Management in a food-manufacturing environment required

·         Two years experience managing a team required

·         Thorough knowledge of laboratory activities to include microbiological testing not limited to SPC, Coliforms/E.coli, Salmonella, Listeria, Yeast and Mold, and analytical testing

·         TPM/Lean manufacturing experience required

·         SAP experience preferred

·         Good verbal and written communication skills

·         Ability to work in a team environment

·         Ability to train and teach others

·         Excellent Knowledge of Food Manufacturing Systems

·         Solid Understanding of Food Safety

·         Experience with Government Regulatory (USDA and canning) requirements in food processing

·         Knowledge in the development and implementation of the following programs:
1. HACCP
2. Sanitary Design
3. Good Manufacturing Practices
4. Statistical Process Control
5. Pest Control
6. Food Microbiology and Chemistry
7. FDA, USDA and PMO Regulatory requirements
8. NCIMS Standards
9. NFPA-SAFE Audit Standards
10. SQF
