DESCRIPTION:

Ensures food safety and quality of all products produced. Responsible for ensuring specifications are defined and communicated, formalizing process capability, institutionalizing process control and predictive quality process. Performs inspections of processes, employee training, compliance with applicable food laws and regulations and verifies plant HACCP plans. Defines best lab practices and provides guidance and adherence to quality policies. Actively participates in resolving customer complaints. Integral part of plant leadership team. Provides support to Sales, R&D and Operations on customer issues, questions and concerns. SCOPE: Large operations. 7 years related experience.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

•A legal responsibility to ensure that ConAgra Grand Rapids complies with all Federal and State regulations associated with food safety and product consistency
•A systems responsibility whereby the Quality Department will provide the primary leadership for the development and management of a strong food safety and total quality system focused on establishing product standards, assuring conformity with these standards, implementing processes and procedures to prevent defects and non conformities and continual improvement of all processes and systems related to the production of safe quality foods
•A technical responsibility whereby the Quality Department will provide for the major operating controls and reviews of our Food Safety and Quality Programs
•Development, implementation, review and maintenance of the SQF 2000 system. In order to carry out these responsibilities, the Plant Quality Assurance Manager in collaboration with the Plant Manager and the VP R&D has authority to take appropriate action to:
•Ensure that the policies and procedures outlined in the Quality Manual are suitable to our business needs and are effectively maintained and consistently applied
•Evaluate and report to the Plant and Platform Quality Management team on the effectiveness and implementation of our Food Safety and Quality Programs
•Identify and evaluate food safety and quality issues and recommend solutions
•Ensure that our nonconformance control procedures conform to our Food Safety and Quality Program requirements
•Evaluate, verify and report the implementation of corrective and preventive action

•Ensure orientation and training is performed for personnel performing food safety and quality-related activities. In carrying out this responsibility, this position, in collaboration with other members of the Plant and Platform Quality Management Team will:
•Implement, maintain and ensure the integrity of our Food Safety and Quality Program
•Distribute and control our Food Safety and Quality Manuals
•Organize and conduct internal quality audits
•Monitor the adequacy of Food Safety and quality plans, including the EMP,
•Collect quality related data for analysis and reporting
•Assisting in verifying and investigating non-conformances
•Verify the completion, implementation and adequacy of corrective and/or preventative actions taken including root cause analysis
•Approve all raw non conforming materials (ingredients and packaging) used in production and release all finished goods for Shipping to Customers.
•Serve as a Technical Resource to review and make judgment on all variance requests and requests to ship non- conforming products
•Research and purchase equipment/instruments to increase the Quality Department's capabilities to meet customer, regulatory agency and department requirements

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

•BS Degree required in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science or other related field
•Five years experience in QA/QC Management in a food-manufacturing environment required
•Three years experience managing a team required
•TPM/Lean manufacturing experience required
•SAP experience preferred
•Thorough knowledge of laboratory activities to include microbiological testing not limited to SPC, Coliforms/E.coli, Salmonella, Listeria, Yeast and Mold, and analytical testing
•Good verbal and written communication skills
•Ability to work in a team environment
•Ability to train and teach others
•Excellent Knowledge of Food Manufacturing Systems
•Solid Understanding of Food Safety
•Experience with Government Regulatory (USDA and canning) requirements in food processing •Knowledge in the development and implementation of the following programs:

1.  HACCP
2.  Sanitary Design
3.  Good Manufacturing Practices
 4. Statistical Process Control
5.  Pest Control
6.  Food Microbiology and Chemistry
7.  FDA, USDA and PMO Regulatory requirements

8.  NCIMS Standards
