R&D Food Technologist - Food Science Degree South Gate, CA

 

Position Description:

Responsible for the development of new value added products for the berry and fruit processing / packaging operations to meet customers needs. Products and processes include frozen strawberries, peaches, mangos and other fruits and vegetables. Provide enhanced frozen fruits and vegetables products to food service, retail and private label markets.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop products from conception to production that meet customers specifications and needs.

Manage and complete assigned research & development projects in a timely manner.

Develop products within cost parameters as required.

Responsibilities include formulation, bench top prototypes and scale up.

Oversee production start-up, adapting formulas and process from lab to production line.

Maintain production formulas and process procedures in computer operating system; complete all required documentation per customer and internal requirements.

Establish product specifications on new products and update files as needed.

Coordinate product nutritional information on Genesis Program and manage files and update as needed.

Develop and update product labeling information.

Coordinate submission of documentation for organic certification and kosher certification.

Provide technical support to customers.

Provide technical support to Sales, Plant and QA departments.

Technical knowledge of ingredients, products, packaging and processes, keeping informed on new technologies and fruit enhancement potentials.

Effectively communicate with R&D Director on projects.

Effectively communicate and team work with R&D Team.

Participate in weekly R&D team meetings and projects as required.

Train QA and production personnel on product and processes as needed.

Participate in quality and sensory evaluation of ingredients.

Other special projects and duties assigned by R&D Director.

Desirable Qualifications

Knowledge experience and/or skill in:

  • Food science
  • Formulation skills
  • Knowledge of regulatory, organic and kosher requirements
  • Organoleptic abilities.
  • Strong organization skills and good follow-up
  • Computer skills

Experience and Education

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Food Science or related science preferred and/or
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in product development, quality assurance and/or operations.
  • Experience in frozen fruit operations a plus.
