Job Description

Food Technologist

E.A. Sween/Deli Express is adding a full-time Food Technologist position to our Research & Development team due to rapid growth and opportunities within the All Channel Sales Division. This position will support the R&D efforts for Deli Express and work on assigned new product development projects. This will include new products produced at our facility in Eden Prairie as well as helping to source products produced by third parties. We are looking for a highly talented, highly motivated individual to join our R&D team to support our long range growth plans for the division.






Working on assigned product development projects for the Deli Express brand by contributing ideas; building, testing and evaluating prototypes; and calculating costs.


Updating and maintaining recipe books and files.


Updating, creating and maintaining nutritional and ingredient labeling.


Completing competitive research analysis.


Conducting research studies including test design and writing conclusions.


Entry level work including time spent on production floor in 45 degree temperatures.






- Bachelor Degree (Food Science or Science degree) required.


- Entry level, R&D, QC or Food manufacturing prior experience is a plus.


- Experience in microwave product development and MAP packaging is a plus.


- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging), NLEA (Nutritional Labeling Education Act) and FALCPA (Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act).


- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Exchange, & Outlook; J.D. Edwards; & Windows XP. 


- Quality Control programs (HACCP, SSOP), Microbiology, Manufacturing, Marketing & Kaizen methodology knowledge a plus.






- Must be able to key into a computer for extended periods of time and speak on the phone.


- Must be self-motivated, able to work alone and able to handle interruptions in the work process.


- Must be able to withstand working in a cold environment (-10° to 50° F) for extended periods of time.


- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs (waist high).


- Must be willing to travel as needed (estimated less than 10%).
