Position Summary Information

Position Description:

Full-time, 9-¬month, tenure track faculty position in the School of Food Systems, an academic unit in the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources at North Dakota State University (NDSU). The successful candidate will have a major role to develop and expand the research, academic, and outreach programs in the School of Food Systems (SFS). The School includes both the Cereal and Food Science Department and the Food Safety program that involve faculty from several NDSU colleges as well as domestic and international institutional collaborations. The successful candidate will have an 80% research appointment and have the responsibility to establish a research program that complements and expands current ongoing international research in functional foods and health, biofortification and bioavailability of nutrients, and food security. The faculty member will also have a 20% teaching appointment in the School that will be assigned according to program need and candidate experience with a key focus on expanding course offerings nationally and internationally. Through their teaching, research, and outreach efforts, this faculty member will have an important and exciting role in shaping the future of NDSU’s growing School of Food Systems both nationally and internationally.

Candidates with exceptional global outreach experience and qualifications may be eligible for a concurrent appointment as the Associate Vice President of Global Outreach leading to a 12 month appointment.

Minimum Qualifications:

1) Earned Ph.D. in Food Science or a Food Systems related field from an accredited institution;
2) Established national and international research program in functional foods, bioavailability of nutrients and their relationship to health;
3) Established international research collaborations related to global food security issues;
4) Evidence of an established record in obtaining grants from national and international organizations;
5) Evidence of successful and effective teaching experience at both the undergraduate and graduate level
6) Demonstrated strong and effective oral and written communications skills;
7) Demonstrated commitment to equity and diversity
8) 10 years experience in a University or College setting dealing with substantive international academic activities.
9) Knowledge of US Government Department of State Programs
10) Professional publications and research record
11) Experience commensurate with tenured professor at
NDSU
12) Recognition by governmental groups/ agencies for leadership in the Global Food Systems field

Preferred Qualifications:

1) Experience with supervising and/or teaching diverse student populations, including domestic underrepresented student populations and international students
2) Evidence of effective supervision and training of subordinates;
3) Experience of developing and implementing strong interdisciplinary research collaborations.
