In 2010, WFP aims to bring food assistance to more than 90 million people in 73 countries.

WFP seeks qualified Food Technologists to support various projects and operations worldwide.

The job location may be in any of the countries where WFP has operations.





The Food Technologist will be responsible for performing the following functions:


  • Developing new foods appropriate for distribution in humanitarian emergencies and programs; Improving existing products and processes for optimization o foods delivered as humanitarian aid; Developing specifications that includes lab test methods for each relevant parameter
  • Checking and improving quality control procedures in suppliers' factories, from the raw material stage through to the finished product; assessing application of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and evaluating Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) implementation
  • Conducting feasibility studies to identify strategic markets to source foods for humanitarian purposes; researching current markets and latest technologies to develop new product concepts
  • Engaging companies that would be interested and capable of meeting WFP needs for rapid deployment of foods in emergency situations; Developing purchasing contracts and/or long term agreement with appropriate companies
  • Addressing issues of safety and quality



  • Advanced university degree in food technology, food science, nutrition, public health or related field
  • Five years relevant work experience in food manufacturing or retailing
  • Proven professional experience in the related fields with ability to work independently on technical matters with minimum supervision.
  • Working knowledge of English
  • Willingness to travel
