Description DESCRIPTION Fast growing food manufacturer and distributor is searching for a Food Technologist SCOPE The Food Technologist is food scientist who applies scientific and engineering principles in research, development, production technology, quality control, packaging, processing, and utilization of foods. This person conducts basic research and new product research and development of foods. Develops new and improved methods and systems for food processing, production, quality control, packaging and distribution. Studies methods to improve quality of foods, for example flavor, color, texture, nutritional value, convenience, or physical, chemical, and microbiological composition of foods. Develops food standards, safety and sanitary regulations. Tests new products in test kitchen and develops specific processing methods in laboratory pilot plant, and confers with process engineers, flavor experts, and packaging and marketing specialist to resolve problems. May also specialize in one phase of food technology, for example product development, quality control, or production inspection, technical writing, teaching or consulting. May also specialize in particular branch of food technology, for example cereal grains, meat and poultry, fats and oils, seafood, animal foods, beverages, dairy products, flavors, sugars and starches, sabilizers, preservatives, colors, and nutritional additives, and be indentified according to branch of food technology. ESSENTIAL DUTIES • Oversee all stages of product and process development and control for new and existing formulas. • Review and approving nutritional data for print, writing new product specifications, and documenting labeling regulations. • Developing samples/prototypes of new products, modifying existing products, developing specifications for product production labeling, and compiling cost analysis information. • Work with sales, marketing and quality assurance departments coordinating with suppliers of ingredients, ensuring smooth start-up for new product production processes, and completing other special projects as needed. Products are distributed throughout North America and expanding internationally.

Requirements QUALIFICATIONS The requirements for this position should include but not be limited to the following. • Bachelor's degree in Food Science • Requires continual improvement of food industry knowledge base by staying abreast of new food ingredients, emerging products, and food trends. • Ability to solve flavor and food ingredient related issues associated with applications and processing methods. • Sound knowledge of food ingredients, equipment, and processing is required. It is important that there is an understanding of the differences between lab and production product preparation. • Strong attention to detail and operational workflow dynamics • Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate at all levels of the organization • Ability to build relationships and work across a multi-product line organization • Self-motivated, analytical, organized, detail-oriented, and ability to multi-task • Experienced planner with the ability to adhere to timelines and meet deadlines • Strong analytics and computer skills (MS Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SysPro etc.) EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE This individual should have the equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related Food Technology.
